Surrey Puma… the phantom cat of southern England! Since the 1950s, folks in Surrey and nearby counties have reported a big cat the size of a puma roaming the countryside. Witnesses describe it as tawny or dark, 4 to 5 feet long, with a long tail, and often seen near woods or farmland. The stories picked up in the 1960s and 1970s with several police reports and photos. Some think it was an escaped exotic pet. Others say it was a large dog or pure local legend. A few still treat it as one of Britain’s classic phantom cats. Either way, the Surrey Puma remains a well-known English cryptid. Y’all got any phantom cat, English countryside, or puma stories? Share ‘em!
