My wife and son are very intense hockey fans. They scare the shit out of the cat when the Sharks score. Based on the talent we have this year it's looking like a long season for the cat.

Welcome to the team!
John Gustavsson Joins Restoring the West as Senior Editor of Nation & Citizenship As Restoring the West grows, so does the range of voices, countries, and ideas we want to bring to our readers. Beginning in November, Todd Huizinga will take over our Book Club, bringing his wide reading, intellectual range, and deep knowledge of the Western tradition to a part of RtW we are excited to expand. Todd has done an outstanding job as Senior Editor of Nation & Citizenship, helping establish the section as a central part of the publication. Taking his place as Senior Editor of Nation & Citizenship will be @JGustavssonPhD. As RtW expands its reach beyond the United States, we want Nation & Citizenship to reflect the debates taking place across the West. A regular contributor to National Review and a former policy adviser in the European Parliament, John brings a distinctly European perspective to the section, with particular insight into the questions of immigration, citizenship, national identity, and political change now confronting European nations. These changes reflect how Restoring the West itself is growing, both in what we publish and in the ground we cover. Our mission remains the same, but our field of vision is getting wider.

A Frenchwoman makes a stand for her nation and gets torched by teens who have no qualms doing so. No one around her steps up. It's almost as if she had committed a horrendous crime and deserved the fire in her face. The question is how did we get to this point? Like America, France underwent a moral collapse in the 1950s or so as it reckoned with its colonial empire. Algiers ousted France. And this was on top of its WWII cowardice. Many of the French became addled with white guilt and sought to escape the colonialist, racist stigma by turning on their own nation. In 1961, Jean-Paul Sartre wrote in his preface to Frantz Fanon's "The Wretched of the Earth" that "to shoot down a European is to kill two birds with one stone, to destroy an oppressor and the man he oppresses at the same time: there remain a dead man, and a free man." This Frenchman, whose writings I've read and admired here and there but not in this instance, told the world that violence against his own people was liberation. Today, a Frenchwoman's face is sprayed with fire, and no one comes to her rescue. Sartre's belief was not fringe. Generations French students, especially the elites, embraced it. France opened its borders out of penance, and its demands for assimilation never went far enough. After all, if a nation is permanently guilty for its racist past, then what moral authority does it have to demand anything of its young people? There was no demand for basic civility, the respect of teachers, and even the simple rule that you do not set your school on fire. But the absence of standards is not compassion or social justice -- it is the loss of standards. That is why we cannot see values of any kind on display as teenagers torch a Frenchwoman who dared to stand for her country. The teens act with impunity, knowing that the woke adults will explain away their violence. White guilt always promises redemption and always delivers the same result. The people of the West are left with the ashes.
A French woman tells one of the second and third-generation migrant rioter no to vandalize her city He responds by trying to set her face on fire

What a pleasure to appear here at Religion and Liberty! I’m talking about despair literature, its strange allure, and how it can be resisted. It really is often harder, and more courageous, to accept that the end may not be nigh.
Political despair can feel like clarity. When every cultural setback confirms that “everything is getting worse,” it becomes tempting to give up on persuasion, prudence, and incremental change. But @rclu of @lawliberty argues that political despair can actually radicalize people, closing off realistic paths toward a better future. Her latest essay asks a provocative question for today’s political right: Is our political criticism helping us see reality more clearly or teaching us to despair of the possibility of change? Read Down with Despair on Religion & Liberty Daily.

Sir Charles sounds like every normal democrat I know. The radical communists hijacking the left are hated by EVERY sane, rational person. More people need to stand up to the crazy commies.

I can't envision how this doesn't have significant repercussions.
Germans don’t yet understand what is coming. An epic squeeze between the US tech and AI revolution, and massively improved Chinese manufacturing capabilities will wipe out the German industrial base. The current wave of bankruptcies and layoffs announced every week is nothing compared to what lies ahead. Germany has a few years left to keep masking the implosion and lack of reforms with more debt and growing government spending, but this will only slightly slow the demise, not stop it. It will be brutal, a former manufacturing superpower replacing its industry with government „jobs“ simply can’t stay prosperous.

I'm even more excited by my second article at The Dispatch. No longer a one hit wonder. Lol.

The central claim of the Third-Worldist cosmos holds that the fundamental division in world politics runs between a dominating North and a dominated South, that this cleavage precedes and explains every other political fact, and that every conflict resolves into a single story of colonizer and colonized. What the ideology fundamentally demands but also delivers in a way that is hypnotic is a totalizing moral hierarchy in which victimhood confers legitimacy and power confers guilt, a formula that can be applied to any dispute anywhere, indefinitely. open.substack.com/pub/zinebr…

I built an antidote to the America-as-villain history and English lessons taught in too many of our public schools. I wish the schools would do this. I spent 24 years trying from the inside, but the system is too sclerotic. The older teachers are too comfortable to push back enough, the younger teachers too poorly educated. The curriculum companies are captured. The School Boards are tied down by state regulations. So it's down to you and me to teach our kids why America deserves to be loved and defended. It'll happen at your kitchen table. You'll read, your child will read, and you’ll talk together, 20-30 minutes, 2-3 times a week, about what it means to be an American. Unit 1 is done. I hope your family will run with it.

1/2 Destroying communism is a bit like trying to destroy blindness/deafness. Blindness isn’t a thing in itself. It’s the absence of sight that ought to be there. Similarly the evil in communism isn’t an independent substance. It is the corruption/removal of goods & social order.
