So @matthew_barber appointed Chief Constable Jason Hogg, then suspended him and has now re-instated him whilst he's still being investigated by the IOPC. Not the way to re-build trust in policing.

Thanks for setting out these principles so clearly.

Thank you to the Prime Minister @Keir_Starmer for recognising the hard work of myself & other campaigners pushing for change. Great to see our calls taken forward on compelling offenders to attend sentencing, safeguarding children of sex offenders and fast-tracking rape cases.

Hard to imagine Trump, Biden, Vance and Harris having a good laugh after the election like Sunak, Starmer, Dowden and Rayner are. #KingsSpeech

Violence in politics is never acceptable, and the attack against Trump should rightfully be condemned. However, the people of Clacton deserve an MP who is present, active, and wants to represent them in our Parliament.
✍️ 'Trump's had a narrow miss. It’s a miracle. I implore the Left to think very carefully about how they seek to play politics' | Writes @Nigel_Farage Read his full column below 👇 telegraph.co.uk/news/2024/07…

There is absolutely no place for political violence in our democracy. Although we don’t yet know exactly what happened, we should all be relieved that former President Trump wasn’t seriously hurt, and use this moment to recommit ourselves to civility and respect in our politics. Michelle and I are wishing him a quick recovery.

A world in which Tom’s government dismantled the criminal justice system through a decade of defunding, leaving our prisons overflowing. It is also the world in which Tom’s own government released 10,083 criminals onto our streets, for the very same reasons.

In the next couple of weeks we will see the latest official Police Workforce figures. From my FOI requests I was expecting under 6k SCs left (some forces actually ignored requests) Other sources are sayng 5800ish. If this is the case we really do need to stop and take stock.

Photo is about 9 haircuts ago but the work has been pretty much my whole life. Working with @YvetteCooperMP to deliver our mission on abuse and violence will be transformational. Let's crack on.
Welcome to the Home Office @jessphillips.

A MASSIVE congratulations from us to those elected and re-elected as Labour MPs across Buckinghamshire and Bedfordshire last week! 🌹 🎉 We look forward to working with this amazing eight going forward. The hard work starts now…

I’m off to bed now after 36hrs of election mania. One of the highlights of those hours was chatting with LordKinnock in the BBC green room. Lovely man. Let’s never forget that what unites us as Brits is 90% of stuff and we mustn’t let the 10% that we disagree about be what breaks us and breaks the West. Good night 💤

An Attorney General who is a genuine heavyweight silk with decades of experience in domestic and international public law? Somebody chosen on the basis of legal acumen and merit rather than their willingness to tell the Prime Minister whatever he wants to hear? Well I never.
Richard Hermer KC has been appointed Attorney General @attorneygeneral. He will attend Cabinet.

Whilst we did not secure a Labour victory in Clacton, I am so proud of the campaign we ran. @ClactonLabour and I, put forward a positive message of hope, unity and respect in line with our principles and values. I hope the new MP will work to bring all communities together.
