Also what kind of dumb generalization is that person making? Because there are some assholes who are mean to amateur artists, that means all artists are gatekeeping privileged assholes? And now that AI has come along, this is like artists getting their just desserts?? This also isn’t even an understandable generalization or stereotype because the vast majority of artists don’t go around dunking on amateur/noob artists, like what kind of skewed experiences is this person talking about? And no, having had bad experiences with some artists does not make the generalization viable, anymore than getting sick from eating chicken once means most chicken is poisonous. And I’m tired of this nonsense where new artists get upset at the “practice more” advice. Sure, it can feel frustrating, and like you’re not being given direction, but there is a near-infinite number of actual robust tutorials and lessons out there for whatever art thing you wanna do. Making a post on twitter asking “how do I get better at art” and then being surprised that the responses are truncated is ridiculous. And finally, let’s be honest: if you have an issue with the “practice more” mindset, it’s possible you’re just avoiding the hard work. Sure you need direction as to what to practice, but you gotta accept that you’re gonna need to draw a lot to improve. It’s like working out.
