It was a lot of fun to think about the enormous utilitarian influence on criminal justice over several centuries. Thanks, Guillaume, for the invitation to contribute!

Q: What specific legislation will you commit to to make child care affordable?
Trump: Well, I would do that and we're sitting down, you know, I was, somebody, we had Marco Rubio and my daughter, Ivanka… But I think when you talk about the kind of numbers that I'm talking about that because the child care is, child care couldn't, you know, there's something you have to have it in this country, you have to have it... I want to stay with child care… So we'll take care of it. Thank you

Great news that David Owens, currently at KCL, has been elected to the Sekyra and White's Professorship of Moral Philosophy at Oxford. A fantastic appointment on both the moral and the legal philosophy fronts.
Allan was a thoughtful, erudite, witty, irreverent, kind, and irrepressibly *vital* man. It is a cliché, I know, but he truly was one of a kind. I enjoyed every minute I ever spent with him. I miss him.

One takeaway from the presidential immunity case is that character matters more than ever before in choosing someone for that job. There aren't many checks other than the person's own internal moral compass.

Traffic congestion in Toronto is hitting some kind of peak. Anyone who gets in a car to go anywhere in the core knows at this point the journey will be insufferable. Cars crawl along city streets, slower than walking - when they move at all.
What if there is a simple policy fix - a miracle of sorts...that can make this problem go away?

Homicides are plummeting.
In all 10 cities with the most 2023 homicides—for which we have data—homicides are falling. The pandemic crime wave is crashing hard.
If these percentage decline numbers were percentage growth numbers, it would be the lede of every cable news show—>
