Creator of The Throw-In Method | Football Throw-In Coach | Keynote Speaker | Part of 18 Titles & 6 Promotions

Joined October 2013
Your team probably takes 40–50 throw-ins every match. Most clubs still underestimate them. That might be costing you points. After working with clubs such as Arsenal, Liverpool, Ajax, Brentford, Dortmund and FC Midtjylland, one thing has become very clear to me: Throw-ins are still one of the biggest untapped advantages in football. As a freelance throw-in coach, I’ve now been part of 18 titles and 5 promotions in international football — including 3 titles and 2 promotions this season, plus a Champions League final with Arsenal on Saturday. I work with a “Long, Fast and Clever Throw-in Philosophy”, always tailored to the team and coaching staff. Depending on the team, clubs I’ve coached have typically focused on: A. Long throw-ins (Brentford, FC Midtjylland) B. Fast and clever throw-ins (Liverpool, Ajax, Dortmund) C. A complete throw-in strategy combining long, fast and clever throw-ins (Arsenal) The process is simple: 1. We discuss your playing style, formation, and current throw-in approach. 2. I analyse your throw-ins to identify strengths and weaknesses. 3. I visit your club for 2–3 days of tailored throw-in coaching with players and staff. The goal is not only to improve the team immediately, but also to educate coaches so the work continues long after I leave. Most clubs already have a set-piece coach — but very few have specialist throw-in knowledge. If you want to improve your throw-ins before next season, feel free to reach out. #premierleague #bundesliga #laliga #throwincoach #thomasgronnemark

This week I had the pleasure to throw-in coach Pendikspor in Turkey. It was 3 fantastic days with an openminded staff and highly motivated players. The focus on the visit was the long, fast and clever throw-in, and the complexity/intensity was raised through the 3 days of training. It was my third club in Turkey (previously Antalyaspor and Trabzonspor), and I have loved every visit to this fantastic country. Friendly people, a big passion for football, and (too) good food. What else do you want. I believe that Tyrkish football has a big potential around detailed- and innovative thinking, so I will do my best to make an impact in this area. I’m open for other clubs in Turkey, so please let me know if you need my help to improve your throw-ins too. #pendikspor #istanbul #throwincoach #thomasgronnemark

Big congratulations to my team Sabah FC on qualifying for the Champions League League Phase! ⚽️👏 Sabah FC is only 9 years old as a club, so reaching the League Phase is a fantastic achievement. As a throw-in coach, I’m very happy and proud to be part of this journey. I have the privilege of working with a fantastic and open-minded coaching staff who see throw-ins as an important part of the game — not just something that happens when the ball goes out of play. And the players are just as open-minded. They are willing to work on every little detail that can help the team perform better. That makes my job both easier and a lot more enjoyable. I have signed a 3-year contract with Sabah FC and also worked with the team last season. They are one of my teams again this season. Until now, I’ve been part of 18 titles in international football, 6 promotions and many teams punching above their weight. And that’s one of the things I love most about my job: Helping teams find those small details that can make a big difference. 💪 Congratulations to everyone at Sabah FC! ❤️⚽️ And if you’re curious about what I can do for your team with a few throw-in coaching visits during the season, feel free to send me a message. Long, Fast & Clever. 👀 #sabahfc #championsleague #sabahfk #throwincoach #thomasgronnemark

I have already got 8 throw-in coaching visits booked for the 2026/27 season. Many clubs want to learn more about my “Long, Fast and Clever throw-in philosophy”… and I’m happy to help them. My throw-in coaching is tailored to the formation and playing style, and a normal visit takes 2 training days. Typically 30-45 minutes pr. session, so you can also do other things while I’m there. Some teams want to work with the long, fast and clever throw-in… and other teams focus only on the fast and clever throw-in. It’s up to you what I should focus on in the training. Most of my teams win titles, promotes or punch above their weight. The reason of my teams success is that if you improve the 40-50 throw-ins pr. match - most teams are medium, bad or really bad at throw-ins - then your general performance will highest likely also improve. Do you want to know more about how I can help you improve your teams throw-ins - then you are welcome to send me a message.

I love the new throw-in rule. Quick throw-ins have always been a key part of my philosophy as a throw-in coach… but there’s one important issue that still needs to be addressed. During the Danish Superliga match between AGF and Brøndby—I have no preference for either team—the ball goes out for a Brøndby throw-in. After the referee awards the throw-in, AGF defender Frederik Tingager kicks the ball back onto the pitch. That removes Brøndby’s opportunity to take a quick throw-in and gives AGF valuable time to get organised. Brøndby then has to retrieve the ball. A few seconds later, the referee raises his arm and starts the new 5-second countdown. The result? A low-quality contested throw-in from Brøndby, and AGF win possession. In handball, a player receives a two-minute suspension if they deliberately prevent the opposition from restarting play quickly after a free throw. The rule exists to stop teams from killing counterattacks. In football, deliberately kicking the ball away after it has gone out for a throw-in—even with the slightest touch—should be a yellow card. If we want faster throw-ins and a better flow to the game, the Laws of the Game need to support that ambition too.

My first German keynote speech – and maybe the beginning of something new Yesterday I experienced something I have been working towards for a long time. I delivered my first keynote speech in German 🇩🇪 I was invited to Flensburg by VR Bank Nord eG to speak about: “Stärken stärken” – how we develop people, teams and performance. It was a fantastic experience. Not only because it was my first German keynote – but because I once again experienced how universal my philosophy is. Whether it is a football team, a company or a sales organisation: The strongest results come when people develop each other, collaborate and continuously look for improvement. After the event, Marco Heßel wrote: “Stärken stärken in einer starken Truppe.” And that really captures the essence. A strong team is not about one strong individual. It is about many people making each other better. Thank you Marco, Erk and everyone at VR Bank Nord eG for the invitation, the trust and the warm welcome. Looking forward to more German adventures 🇩🇪⚽️ #Leadership #Teamwork #Development #KeynoteSpeaker

The new 5-second throw-in countdown is creating a problem at the World Cup… ⚽️ At the World Cup, we have seen a new throw-in rule introduced: If the referee feels the throw-in is taking too long, he can start a 5-second countdown. I believe faster throw-ins are good for football. I work with “The Long, Fast and Clever Throw-in” myself. But what I predicted before the World Cup has happened: Because of the time pressure, we are seeing many 50/50 throw-ins down the line into pressure duels. And that is not good football. The problem is not the 5-second countdown. The problem is teams not knowing how to use the throw-in strategically. What teams should NOT do: ❌ Get the ball slowly ❌ Change the thrower ❌ Let players stand still The referee will lose patience. Instead, teams should: ✅ Get the ball quickly ✅ Read the opponent’s defensive pattern ✅ Find the open spaces ✅ Create space if it is not already there ✅ Use sequences (not routines) ✅ Make smart throw-in decisions based on risk vs reward The World Cup teams probably don’t have time to add this now… (But you can still fly me over 😉) Looking forward to helping more clubs improve their “Long, Fast and Clever Throw-in” in the upcoming season. #Football #ThrowIns #throwincoach #thomasgronnemark

6–8 clubs. One specialist area. Thousands of throw-in opportunities⚽️ I’m happy to announce that I’ve signed a 3-year contract as throw-in coach with Sabah FC. And no — this doesn’t mean that I will only coach Sabah FC for the next 3 seasons. Sabah FC will be one of my 6–8 teams next season, as I continue helping clubs around the world improve one of football’s most underestimated skills: the throw-in. We had a very successful cooperation this season, with Sabah FC winning their first Premier League title in Azerbaijan — and also the cup title. 🏆 At Sabah FC, I’m coaching my “Long, Fast and Clever throw-in” philosophy, and I’m looking forward to learning the players and coaches even better during the upcoming preseason. Every team has around 40–50 throw-ins per match. What if you could turn more of them into an advantage? Until now, I’ve been part of 18 titles and 6 promotions in international football — helping clubs create better structures, better decisions, and more attacking opportunities from throw-ins. I work with clubs at different levels and have different pricing models, so more teams can benefit from specialist throw-in coaching. If you want to know how I tailor my throw-in coaching to your formation, playing style and ambitions, send me a message. The throw-in is still football’s most underestimated weapon. 🚀 #sabahfc #sabahfk #throwincoach #thomasgronnemark

⚽️ 3 THROW-IN INSIGHTS FROM SWITZERLAND vs QATAR Last night’s game between Switzerland and Qatar gave me some interesting throw-in observations. And once again, the throw-in showed why it can decide football matches. 1. THROW-IN PRESSURE 56.7% of the throw-ins in the game were “no pressure throw-ins”. That is a missed opportunity. During my 5 years at Liverpool FC, we often forced opponents down to only 25–40% possession on their throw-ins. Why? Because throw-in pressure can win the ball back before the opponent even starts their build-up. Many teams only apply pressure when the opponent reaches their own penalty area. But the throw-in is already a moment where the opponent is vulnerable: Players are often out of position Passing options are limited The thrower cannot move with the ball A well-organised throw-in press can create big chances. 2. KICK-OFF THROW-IN STRATEGY A year ago, Paris Saint-Germain FC started deliberately kicking the ball out from kick-offs to press the opponent’s throw-in close to their penalty area. Interesting idea — but I believe there is an even better way. Instead of giving the ball away immediately: Let your winger make a run down the line Take 2–3 passes Play the ball into the space near the opponent’s sideline Then you create several winning situations: ✅ Win the duel and attack ✅ Win a throw-in or corner ✅ If the opponent gets the throw-in — press them in a great area You keep your attacking opportunity AND create a pressing moment. 3. THROW-IN GOAL Qatar’s late goal was another reminder: A throw-in can decide a match. Switzerland lost the ball from their own throw-in (it didn’t look like they had a clear plan), and just seconds later Qatar scored. That’s the power of the throw-in. It is not just about getting the ball back into play. It is about using the moment better than your opponent. If your team wants to improve with Long, Fast & Clever Throw-ins next season, feel free to reach out. It can help you win more games ⚽️💪 #football #throwins #coaching #tactics

HOW do I use my 9-field throw-in model to help teams gain an edge on the pitch? Before visiting a club, I speak with the coaching staff to understand the team's playing style and tactical principles. I then analyse the team's throw-ins to identify strengths, weaknesses, and untapped opportunities. Finally, I spend 2-3 days at the club delivering tailored throw-in coaching for both players and staff, ensuring the development continues long after I leave. No two clubs are the same, which is why every session is customised to the team's needs, playing style, and training schedule. Over the last 22 years, I have helped clubs win titles, achieve promotion, qualify for Europe, and perform above expectations. Throw-ins remain one of football's biggest untapped opportunities. Do you want your team to gain an advantage from a situation that occurs 40-60 times per match? Send me a message.

I've kept a secret since 2008. Now I break the silence... Most people know me as a throw-in coach. Others know me from my keynote speaking. But very few know that for the last 18 years I have also coached another often-overlooked part of football: The goalkeeper's throw-out. I started coaching it at Vejle Boldklub in 2008. Since then, I have worked with goalkeepers and coaching staffs at clubs including RB Leipzig, Toulouse FC, and Brentford FC. The reason most people haven't heard about it? I never offered it as a standalone service. Goalkeeper throw-out coaching was only available to clubs that already booked my throw-in coaching. Until now. Over the years, I have developed my Long, Fast & Clever Goalkeeper Throw-Out Method, helping teams turn one of football's most underused situations into a competitive advantage. Because the goalkeeper's throw-out is not just about throwing far. Although many of the goalkeepers I work with improve their throw-out length by 8–10 metres—or even more—in just one or two sessions, that is only part of the story. It's about: ✓ Creating attacks before the opposition is organised ✓ Finding hidden space ✓ Reading defensive patterns ✓ Creating numerical advantages ✓ Improving decision-making ✓ Helping goalkeepers and outfield players work together What many see as a simple restart can become one of the most powerful competitive advantages in modern football. The secret is out. From today, clubs can book Goalkeeper Throw-Out Coaching as a standalone service or alongside my throw-in coaching programme. Because football's hidden opportunities don't start and end with throw-ins. I look forward to helping even more clubs unlock this hidden opportunity. #football #goalkeeper #goalkeeping #coaching #innovation #performance

NEW THROW-IN WORLD RECORD! 🏆 Saturday was a special day. At Dalby Stadium in Kolding, Denmark, I set a new world record for the longest throw-in distance achieved in one hour: 5,156 metres. The attempt went so well that I had already broken the previous world record after just 36 minutes and 45 seconds, leaving more than 23 minutes on the clock. The previous record stood at 4,324 metres and had been held since 2012. A special part of the challenge was that I wore 9 different shirts during the attempt – shirts representing clubs where I have been part of winning titles as a throw-in coach. In that way, the record attempt also became a tribute to the many players, coaches and staff members I have had the privilege of working with throughout my career. At the same time, the event was used to raise funds for the Danish Childhood Cancer Foundation, making the day even more meaningful. A huge thank you to everyone who supported the event, helped behind the scenes, donated, or followed the journey. If you would like to support the fundraising campaign, donations are still welcome. Every contribution makes a difference. Now the question is... Should I try to break my own world record? 🤔⚽ #throwincoach #keynotespeaker #thomasgronnemark

Today I was live on Danish Radio ahead of my throw-in world record attempt tomorrow. During the interview, the journalist mentioned that he wanted to improve his throw-in length. We only had the 2½-minute song break to work on it — so I quickly coached his technique. When we came back live on air, he had already improved his throw-in by 5 meters. Of course, this was an extreme example 😄 But honestly, in many of the professional clubs where I work, players improve their throw-ins by 5–10 meters after just 15 minutes of focused throw-in coaching. And when you consider that long throw-ins can be used not only as an attacking weapon near the opponent’s goal, but also for faster counterattacks and increasing the effective throw-in area across the pitch… …it’s a pretty strong return on investment for a very small amount of training time. My name is Thomas Gronnemark, and I’m a throw-in coach. If you’d like me to help improve your players’ throw-ins next season, feel free to reach out. Throw-ins are still one of football’s most underused weapons.

30 years. 22 years. 58 years. 17 years. First time. First time. What do these numbers have in common? They represent clubs ending long waits for success — or achieving something for the very first time. And yes, I had one thing in common with all of them: I was their throw-in coach. ⚽ Liverpool FC – first league title in 30 years ⚽ Arsenal – first league title in 22 years ⚽ Union Saint-Gilloise – promotion to the top Belgian league after 58 years ⚽ JEF United Chiba – promotion after 17 years ⚽ Philadelphia Union – first conference title ⚽ Sabah FC – first league title So far, I’ve been part of 18 titles and 5 promotions. Of course, football success is never about one thing. But there are typically 40–50 throw-ins in a match. That means 40–50 moments where you can: • keep possession instead of losing it • create pressure instead of relieving it • create chances instead of wasting opportunities And yet throw-ins are still one of the most overlooked parts of the game. Small improvements in 40–50 situations per match can become a surprisingly big competitive edge over a season. What does a throw-in coaching visit look like? 1️⃣ A meeting with coaches to understand formation, playing style, and match principles 2️⃣ Analysis of the team’s throw-ins to identify strengths and weaknesses 3️⃣ On-pitch implementation over 2–3 days Sessions are typically only 30–45 minutes, meaning teams can still focus on other preseason priorities. Depending on the club’s needs, I coach: → long throw-ins → fast throw-ins → clever throw-ins → or a combination of all three Every club already has football knowledge. Most also have a set-piece coach or a set-piece point of contact. But while many teams are strong on corners and free kicks, throw-ins are often an untapped competitive advantage. That’s why I also educate the coaching staff, so the work continues long after I leave. Preseason booking has started, and spots are limited. If you want to explore how throw-in coaching could fit your team and create a competitive advantage, send me a message.

Saturday the 30th of May I’m doing a throw-in world record attempt ⚽️ I’m throwing in the shirts of the 9 clubs I have won a title with (18 titles) 🏆 Can you guess the clubs or do you have a favourite shirt? I’m raising money for the “Child Cancer Foundation”, and the record I’m trying to beat is most throw-in meters in an hour. I’ve just turned 50, so to throw more than 4324 meters in an hour will be a battle. Hope for you support ❤️⚽️☀️ Please like, share or comment for the good cause 🙏 #throwincoach #premierleague #arsenal #liverpoolfc #thomasgronnemark
