Obama's Clean Power Plan would have averted 1000s of deaths each year from fossil-fuel pollution.
In 2016, the US Supreme Court stopped it while it was under review by a lower court.
No reasoning or explanation ("shadow docket") - 5:4.

Liz Oyer was the Pardon Attorney of the US Justice Department, fired by the incoming Trump Administration on 7 March 2025.
Since then she has been meticulously documenting how Trump uses pardons to save fraudsters from paying court-ordered restitution to their victims.

Fear is not a by product of the violence in the West Bank: it is one of its goals.
Israel is systematically killing, injuring, imprisoning, torturing and forcibly displacing Palestinians on a massive scale. These are not isolated incidents or spontaneous attacks by extremist settlers, but part of a deliberate mechanism of control and oppression designed to intimidate the entire Palestinian population, disrupt their lives and drive them off their land. This is how the system is structured, and how it has operated for decades.
This violence is carried out by different arms of the same system: the military, police, Shin Bet (ISA), Israel’s Prison Service, and settler militias. The military bombs residential areas, demolishes homes, kills Palestinians and forcibly displaces them. In prisons, Palestinians are subjected to torture and abuse. Meanwhile, the state supports settler militias and provides them with the necessary infrastructure to operate, while soldiers protect them and sometimes participate in their attacks on Palestinians. These are not separate actors: they are part of a single mechanism, operating with institutional backing and almost complete impunity granted by the law enforcement system. Impunity is not a failure of the system. It’s how the system works.
Since October 2023, this violence has escalated dramatically. According to B’Tselem’s figures, From October 7, 2023, until September 21, 2026, Israel killed 1,116 Palestinians in the West Bank, including 245 children and teenagers The ripple effect is enormous. Any Palestinian in the West Bank who leaves home in the morning, drives along a road or works farmland is constantly calculating the risks involved.
That is the goal of the mechanism of violence and intimidation: to make life impossible for Palestinians in the West Bank, drive them off their land and dismantle the conditions for their existence as a collective. It is one of the five mechanisms Israel is employing in its Elimination Project.

Fully 89% in the US believe corruption in the US political system is widespread.
This is a high for the US & a high within the OECD.
Only four other countries have ever reached this level.

In 2025, the US abruptly cut funding for disease surveillance, outbreak preparedness, & treatment programs by humanitarian organizations.
This NYTimes chart shows the effect: the virus got a head start, is spreading fast & killing most of those infected.

@ThomasPogge Actually the total cost of US military-driven spending in FY 2027 (9/30/26-9/30/27) is now US$6.2 billion per day, including interest on mil-driven debt + VA costs. Viz:
Here's another thing China built with a little over one day's worth of US military spending: Chongqing East Railroad Station:

So much for Trump's promise to eliminate the national debt. With interest rates rising, this won't end well.

In the US (as in many other countries) the rich have various ways of accumulating wealth tax-free. While their fortunes grow exponentially, the rest must try to save against the headwind of taxation & are taxed even on interest that merely offsets inflation.
ICE is hunting down immigrants with the help of Palantir.
In six months, Palantir’s founder, @PeterThiel, will be able to start spending unimaginable sums of money —completely tax-free — to bankroll the political causes dear to his heart.
He'll be able to do it thanks to a tax-avoidance scheme he’s been building for more than 20 years, at a staggering cost to the American taxpayer.
Let me explain. 🧵
