"Forgotten Island" opening to $10-ish million this weekend is a disaster for DreamWorks/Universal and a tragedy for fans of original animation. It has a 95% RT score. They made a good film and audiences just refuse to pay to see it. It'll probably do well on Netflix, anyway

Such a beautiful film, and an unexpected surprise caused by your usual poor marketing. Forgotten Island is both a visual and emotional feast that rewards the eyes with hyper neon stylistic animation and tugs at the heartstrings with an endearing friendship at the center. It’s not perfect and I didn’t quite resonate with most of the worldbuilding and side characters showcased, but the protagonists front and center is what drives the narrative through such a human dilemma and conflict. The entire film transforms in the third act, shifting the story from fun and experimental to truly special. Whilst not as expertly written or instantly classic like The Last Wish, Forgotten Island is the kind of original movie that’s worth rooting for filled with love and passion interwoven to convey the importance of memories worth cherishing.

I just came back from seeing Forgotten Island and while it has its flaws its still an enjoyable film and at least an original film and not a sequel. I would probably give it a 7 out of 10. I did like the best friend dynamic and the world of the island itself.
