At the #GaryCon artist's booth I learned that Larry Elmore was willing to do the covers of the new Dragonlance trilogy but was told that they wanted a digital artist because digital art has more "pop." So instead of a cover like the one on the left we got the one on the right.

Another victory for the environment! The Florida Supreme Court has denied the appeal of developers who had their project to build 550 homes on the abandoned Calusa golf course challenged by the presence of a rookery. They now have to start from scratch with a new proposal!

This post covers a lot of ground: Symmetrical rules, players making all the rolls, contests and their math, and stealth and ambushes. Yet somehow it turned out short. Usually, my topics grow in length. dmdavid.com/tag/never-have-m…

Great thread. For my part a big thing that we didn’t design for in #mothershipRPG was stealth mechanics. But the game is also about running and hiding. We don’t have fleeing rules either. Here’s why.
Art is about restraint as much as it is about expression. In writing, for example, one asks: "what is to be said?" and "how is it to be said?" *and also* "what need not be said?" 1/2

Come to #Chult, they said. It’s a tropical wonderland, they said. Well, today’s Side Trek from #TheEpicAtlas may have awesome #DnD maps for running Tomb of Annihilation or a homebrew campaign in The Forgotten Realms, but I’d like to have a “talk” with my travel agent! #ttrpg

Eureka! I found a treasure trove of misplaced and forgotten master copies of my 3.5 & 4E #DnD #maps last night. Layered hi-res Photoshop files going back to the first few #ttrpg projects I ever worked on. Gridless and spoiler-free player’s versions coming soon!

It will forever be known as “Jaquaysing a dungeon”. There is an “s” in Jaquays. I have spoken. @JennellAllyn #jaquaysing

The Pulitzer Prize submission close in a couple days. If you believe that my work covering the breaking news of the D&D OGL issue in early 2023 was impactful, important, and worthy of recognition, please read and sign this open letter. docs.google.com/document/d/e…

Fear that if they do anything else, they lose their audience. Well, in that case, it wasn't your audience in the first place, it was Hasbro's. You should make 5E products because you love 5E and you have a vision. Not because you're afraid you'll lose customers otherwise.

Ben Riggs caused a stir this week when he pronounced "The Golden Age of TTRPGs is Dead." Some part of the scene certainly feels like it's died in the last couple of years. So maybe it's time for a Fifth Edition Revival (5ER)? #dnd #5er #DnDRevival mtblackgames.com/blog/the-fi…

"First of all, I do not use artificial intelligence (NOT AI) for my work and no one but you and my director have asked me." Nestor Ossandón said in an email to me. "And that image is completely painted. It is one of my favorite recent jobs that I have been able to do." (cont)
I have inquired about the D&D 2024 artwork and asked for the artist credit and response to criticism that it was AI generated/enhanced.

One of the things I fear about the future of dnd is that it eventually becomes a game designed by a bunch of designers we don't know because the company won't allow them to be active in the social spaces with their players. Faceless, sterile, and bland. I legit fear this.

An actionable item I already completed since then (including attending two other panels!) was updating the DMsGuild section of my site so you can now shop my DMG titles direct on my site w/ affiliate links. sterlingvermin.com/dmsguild
Learned a lot from the marketing panel this morning with @BiancaBickford, @Rage_Kage_Games, @barilleon, and @AJoyce_Rivera — immediately ran from the panel back to my room to start updating my website!

I couldn't disagree more.
If you do not have an answer to what's behind any given door in a dungeon, you are failing your players. If your answer is a quantum ogre because it's "oh so kewl" you are failing your players. If it's a random roll, you are failing your players.
