Next time you think you need to hire more people, consider this:
The Skunk Works was ~50 engineers and ~100 machinists.
They built the first supersonic fighter, the Blackbird, and the first stealth aircraft. The stealth prototypes flew 20 months after the contract was awarded.

ABL: Always Be Learning
Ron Chernow on how Alexander Hamilton filled every scrap of paper with notes from his extracurricular learning.
Rocket Money (and others) built a business on finding the subscriptions you forgot you were paying for. Now @bot and it's peers do it as a side quest.
We're now at a stage where, for many individuals and small businesses, they can build the thing themselves.
Sometimes I just need the thing to do the thing. If it breaks or the tech moves, I'll just rebuild it. This feels like an era of personal software, vs the era of enterprise software. "You built something disposable" isn't an insult. It could be the whole point.

To be specific, the pattern of the last 4 years has been lab insiders correctly predicting rapid capabilities growth while overestimating the likely real-world consequences. I expect a continuation of both trends in 2027.
Something I can’t get past whenever I listen to Dwarkesh on how AI will transform the economy (which I generally enjoy) is the Fed will still have a 2% inflation and full employment mandate regardless of what AI does and he’s not equipped to think through that.
Why would an AI lab sell the ability to cure cancer instead of curing it and selling the output? My bet: the models commoditize, the lead ossifies, and the real money moves into the world of atoms. Debate welcome.

Since when did we start making investments without knowing what we want out of them? 62% of tech leaders say enterprise ROI is the priority; only 30% measure it at the margin. And 90% plan to spend more on agentic AI. With what plan?
A story finances the gap between what a leader promises and what they can prove. I looked at how Musk, Huang, Altman, and Amodei each work that gap (and why Munger is the one I keep coming back to).

Two thoughts from Jeffrey Archer
“While there may not be a book in every one of us, there is so often a damned good short story.”
“I have discovered with advancing years that few things are entirely black or white, but more often different shades of grey.”

Conference concept: Badges that can change color quickly, so you can use for example white (on record), blue (press), yellow (Chatham house), red (off record) or black (leave me alone).
Not free, but not that expensive if it enhances the experience, and fun souvenir.

The only group more insufferable than tech people is anti-tech bluesky users, who have been coming back to X in droves the last few weeks.
And they’re just discovering that the entire world got rich over the last two years while they were busy arguing with each other about politics and AI.
And they’re very, very angry.

with the decompiling / distilling wave, hard to see how standalone software survives without a critical services component and indispensable graph.
you can rebuild software tailored for you, for the price of tokens.
you can also just summon the power of software with a prompt🤯
