Polish teacher Władysław Bieliński moments before he was executed by the Germans, in 1939.
Jakob Lölgen from the Gestapo headed up Unit 16 who ordered the shooting, and ended up as the head of the criminal investigation department in Trier until he retired aged 60. His final days were spent in a retirement home and he died aged 80.
His defense is "It was ordered from further up!"
Władysław ended up in a ditch with 349 other Polish intellectuals. Just another forgotten statistic.

Lepa Radić was a 17-year-old freedom fighter who was executed by the Germans in 1943.
At the age of 15, she witnessed the German invasion of Yugoslavia in 1941. Despite falling under the sinister grip of the nazis, the people of Yugoslavia fiercely resisted.
Following her arrest and imprisonment by the puppet government of Yugoslavia, Lepa Radić was liberated by Partisan fighters. She joined their cause, actively participating in the resistance movement's frontline operations, which sought to overthrow the occupying forces and establish a socialist government.
Tragically, her involvement in the resistance movement ultimately led to her demise.
Radic took part in a mission to rescue 150 women and children, engaging in combat against enemy troops. However, she was captured and condemned to death by hanging.
During the three days preceding her execution, she endured torture in an attempt to extract information about her fellow partisans.
Despite the torment, she remained steadfast and refused to provide any answers.
Just before her hanging, she was given a final opportunity to disclose the identities of her comrades, to which she defiantly replied, "I am not a traitor to my people. Those whom you inquire about will reveal themselves once they have eradicated every single one of you evildoers."

Rangers discovered a one-year-old hippo, whom they have named Owen, alone and dehydrated near Kenya's Indian Ocean coast after he became separated from his herd in 2004.
They took him to a wildlife sanctuary in Mombasa, where he soon found a male tortoise with the same dark grey coloring as adult hippos.
The tortoise initially hissed at Owen, warning him to stay away, but according to park officials the pair have since become inseparable.
The Aldabran tortoise, called Mzee, or "Old Man" in Swahili, now eats and sleeps beside Owen. Rangers say they could not have placed Owen with another herd of hippos as he would have been killed by an adult male.
The park's tourism manager, Pauline Kimoto, told reporters: "Since Owen arrived on 27 December, the tortoise behaves like a mother to him. The hippo follows the tortoise around and licks his face."

Khafre, known to the ancient Greeks as Khefren, was the son of King Khufu, the builder of the Great Pyramid. He constructed his own pyramid complex at Giza, which, while slightly shorter at 143.5 meters in height, was just as impressive as his father's. The core masonry of his pyramid was made of local limestone, with the top still preserving the polished limestone blocks that once encased most of the structure.
The white stone used for the casing was quarried in Tura and transported by ship. Khafre's mortuary temple at the foot of his pyramid and the valley temple at the end of the causeway were larger and better preserved than those of older pyramids. The layout of his mortuary temple became the new standard for later Old Kingdom structures.
A unique feature of Khafre's complex is the Great Sphinx, which stands beside his valley temple. The valley temple is made of massive limestone blocks encased in granite, with floors of alabaster and monolithic granite pillars in its wide hall. The symmetrically arranged niches in the hall once housed statues of the king, some of which are now on display in the Egyptian Museum. One such statue, a granodiorite depiction of Khafre with Horus as a falcon behind his head, is considered a masterpiece of ancient Egyptian art.

The various parts of baobabs, such as leaves, fruits, and bark, have been used in traditional medicine and as a source of food for centuries. This makes them a vital source of life and sustainability in Africa. Their importance is evident in their deep-rooted connection to African culture and their ability to provide sustenance and shelter in challenging environments.
The Baobab tree is not only a powerful symbol of life and sustainability in Africa but also an essential resource for the well-being of its people and the environment.

The "Elephant's Foot" is a highly radioactive mass that was formed during the Chernobyl nuclear disaster in April 1986. After the reactor's core melted, the molten material combined with concrete, sand, and other substances, creating a highly toxic substance. This mass eventually cooled and hardened into a shape somewhat resembling an elephant's foot, giving it its name.
Located in the basement of the destroyed reactor, the Elephant's Foot was discovered months after the accident. At that time, it was emitting radiation at extremely high levels, making it one of the most dangerous objects in the world. A brief exposure could be lethal. Over time, its radioactivity has decreased, but it remains hazardous.

Real corpses were used in the 1982 film Poltergeist. The reason that real skeletons were used in the movie is because it was actually cheaper and more cost-effective than creating and using plastic fake ones.
JoBeth Williams, the actress who falls in the pool with the skeletons, was not made aware that they were real skeletons after she finished shooting the scene.
