$ASTS $VOD: Europe's sovereignty dreams
Satellite Connect Europe is @VodafoneGroup's joint venture with @AST_SpaceMobile, another US-based satellite company. Yet, Boddy argued it is fundamentally different to how Starlink or Amazon operates, noting it performs much better on the sovereignty front. Crucially, he argued that the core network and the radio infrastructure are on the ground and located in Europe, controlled by the JV, which is based in Luxembourg.
Still, Boddy seemed to acknowledge there is appetite for a fully homegrown service. "It's not possible today for Europe to have a sovereign satellite constellation," he said, adding "it may be possible in the future, that's something I'm sure every European would desire."

IonQ announced it has agreed to acquire @ElisityInc to accelerate zero trust for the quantum era. The acquisition brings together IonQ’s post-quantum cryptography (PQC) and quantum key distribution (QKD) capabilities with Elisity's enterprise Zero Trust technology platform.
Enterprises face two overlapping priorities: containing attacks that operate at machine speed and preparing to protect sensitive information against future quantum threats. A recent GAO report (files.gao.gov/reports/GAO-27…) found that none of the 24 federal agencies it audited had fully addressed selected post-quantum cryptography practices, while Juniper Research (juniperresearch.com/press/po…) projects that only 27% of global enterprises will be quantum-ready by 2035. Together, these trends underscore the need to prepare now for the quantum era.
IonQ will add an expanded cybersecurity platform that uncovers and protects against both present LLM and emerging quantum threats.
“With Elisity and its team as part of IonQ, we will be well positioned to help customers protect critical infrastructure and enterprise networks throughout the transition to the quantum era. Elisity will bring proven enterprise policy enforcement scale and deployment experience to our quantum security strategy and will give IonQ a strong growth platform to serve customers,” said IonQ’s Chairman and CEO @NiccoloDeMasi.

$ASTS | @AST_SpaceMobile | Midland | John Joyce
Dan McCown, CTO & Co-Founder at NetAscendant Solutions:
《Midland doesn't just build things. It builds things that go to space.
Today I attended the Texas Space Coalition's Launch and Learn event, and would you believe that the Permian Basin's next boom might be 300 miles up?
The Texas Space Coalition was founded in 2024 by two 25-year Air Force veterans. Its goal is to connect industry, academia and government so that West Texas talent from UTPB, Midland College and UTEP doesn't have to move to Houston or El Segundo to work in aerospace.
Sara Harris of the Midland Development Corporation walked through the West Texas Aerospace Corridor and even the plans for a vertical orbital launch site west of Midland.
Then John Joyce, VP of Production at AST SpaceMobile, showed what's already being built here:
1. Next-gen BlueBird satellites with about 2,400 sq ft of surface area, orbiting at 17,000 mph
2. The first company delivering cellular broadband from space directly to ordinary phones without using native cellular capabilities
3. More than $6B raised to build the network
4. Demand for 500–700 satellites over the next 5 years, plus a major new facility (their 7th) planned near the Midland International Air & Space Port
When John was asked the question "Why Midland?" He said Midland has been a hand up for AST as it grew, and he described the spirit here as "I'm not going to lose, I'm going to win."
That's the wildcatter mentality. The grit that built the oil patch carries straight over to aerospace.
According to John, there are opportunities here for the whole region: machining, PLC programming, maintenance engineering, logistics, security and support services. He said the support-services skill sets are some of the hardest to hire for. This is where local businesses and schools should be paying attention.
Thank you to Matt Van Parys, the Texas Space Coalition and the Midland Development Corporation for bringing this group together, and to John for a candid, inspiring look at what AST SpaceMobile is building in our backyard.》

$ASTS: 🇪🇺EUROPE STARTS ESTABLISHING FRAMEWORK FOR "EUCCS", A FIRSTNET-LIKE FIRST RESPONDER NETWORK WHICH WILL INCORPORATE SATELLITE CONNECTIVITY
➡️AST is clearly positioning itself to meet European requirements by establishing mfg facility in Barcelona & test center in Malaga, flagging the 344-satellite European constellation out of Germany, establishing the SOC in Germany, creating SCE HQ in Belgium, standing up ground centers in Germany, UK, Spain and France, and finally working closely with local MNO partners for deployment.
New EU Critical Communication System for first responders
30 September 2026
Directorate-General for Migration and Home Affairs
On 30 September, the European Commission proposed to establish a new EU Critical Communication System (EUCCS) to provide Europe’s first responders with secure and resilient communication channels in crisis situations.
When wildfires, floods, hybrid threats or terrorist attacks occur, first responders need to communicate and coordinate quickly across borders. Today, national critical communication systems are neither technically compatible nor interlinked. The proposed EU Critical Communication System will change this, enabling Europe’s first responders to communicate and cooperate seamlessly across borders in real time, whenever and wherever needed.
The EUCCS connects national critical communication systems, bringing together different first responders – police, firefighters, emergency medical services and other civil protection organisations across Member States. The System covers all EU and Schengen associated countries.
The System will allow first responders to communicate faster and in a more secure way across services, both at national level and across Europe. Notably:
All 31 countries will gradually move from narrowband radio systems to broadband technology such as 5G, while EU satellites provide additional back-up for situations when land-bound systems are incapacitated, such as during blackouts.
The EUCCS will enable first responders to share data, video, messages and geolocation in real-time through a single secure device.
This will improve situational awareness and coordination in case of crises or emergencies.
The system will be secure, protected against cyber and hybrid attacks using encryption, and a strong protocol. It will be supported by:
A European Union Network Monitoring Centre which will provide a secure and resilient optical fibre network, allowing countries to connect through one central point instead of building many separate links with each other.
A European Union Security Monitoring Centre which will track cyber security risks, assess threats and support Member States.
Reinforcing European strategic autonomy
The proposal provides countries with a new European-built solution, reducing reliance on foreign technologies and strengthening European tech sovereignty. The system’s critical components (including satellites, the core mobile network, and the mobile broadband technology used) are developed by European companies. This makes national investment in critical communication more attractive for Member States, by increasing the reach of the critical communication system from a regional or national tool to one that covers the entire EU and the Schengen Associated Countries. The EU Critical Communication system t can serve for coordination across many more services, such as the armed forces.
The system is also designed to adapt to the continuous innovation in critical communication and commercial electronic communications. The Commission will support Member States in cooperating with industry and research organisations to ensure the continuous innovation of critical communication in the EU.
While being interconnected at European level, Member States will maintain full control over their national networks and over the governance of the new system, which will be ensured by a Member States’ expert group.
Next steps
It is now for the European Parliament and the Council to adopt the Regulations. The European Union Critical Communication System is planned to be launched gradually, with a transition period for Member States to connect to the system, starting in 2030.
Background
The EU Critical Communication System was identified as one of the key actions of the European Internal Security Strategy, ProtectEU in April 2025 and the EU Preparedness Union Strategy launched in March 2025. This builds on the recommendations of the Niinistö Report on Preparedness and Readiness of the EU, urging the EU to complete the EU Critical Communication System as soon as possible.
