Ooh I just experienced Magic Notes for the first time, in a meeting. Really curious to know more about a) how it works with mental capacity (and DOLS?) assessments, and best interests meetings; b) whether knowing you're being recording changes interactions...

What is going on with the DoLS dataset?! Ever since the Minister for Health told Parliamentarians there were only a handful of cases (single digits) of people with learning disabilities/autism in mental health settings under DoLS, I've been trying to get data on this

Anyway... this doesn't bode well at all for 'monitoring' how many LD/A people end up transferred to DoLS from the MHA following the changes of the MH Bill...

(CQC would probably like me to add that their data only shows that they have LD/A and are under DoLS in a mental health hospital setting, not that LD/A is the reason why. But that's not the core concern for campaigners - the core concern is that it's not the right environment).

Liz Kendall’s big speech on benefits has declared she wants to help disabled people “build a decent life.” I wonder how taking the disability benefits they need to wash and leave the house achieves that exactly?

Great to see JCHR, CQC and so many organisations supporting a human rights amendment for outsourced mental healthcare - it would be great to see this for children's social care as well @Jacqui_Smith1 committees.parliament.uk/pub…

When health, social care and education are outsourced to private and independent sector providers, recent court rulings mean the Human Rights Act may not apply directly to providers - the Children's Wellbeing and Schools Bill is a chance to fix this @Jacqui_Smith1

The terms of reference for the Casey #socialcare commission are published today (though staff have been working for a while). There are concerns, particularly timing, but they should offer the scope Baroness Casey needs to do a thorough job. Thread below ⬇️gov.uk/government/publicatio…

Twenty years ago, Peter Lodge wrote to the Guardian to complain about the state’s treatment of family carers. In 2022, he died suddenly at the home he shared with his severely disabled son, David, who had no way to call for help. 1/5

Does anyone know what's happening with the Casey review of social care? Will there be a call for evidence any time soon?

I do hope someone's told the Free Speech Union that in the USA many States and the Federal government are banning the teaching of critical race theory... sounds like a terrible interference with freedom of speech...
🚨 FSU member Martin Speake has been forced out of his job for challenging Critical Race Theory. Find out more about his shocking case here: crowdjustice.com/case/fighti… For 22 years, Martin was a respected jazz educator at Trinity Laban. But when he questioned the institution's 'anti-racism' policies and called for open debate, the backlash was swift. ❌ Classes boycotted ❌ Venues refused to book him ❌ Concerts cancelled ❌ New album halted ❌ Bands refused to play his music The emotional toll was devastating. In November 2024, faced with an institution that had so blatantly disregarded his academic freedom and free expression, he resigned. Now, with the FSU’s help, he’s taking legal action for discrimination and constructive dismissal. This case isn't just about Martin. If academics and artists can be silenced for their views, free expression in higher education is dead. 🔥 Help Martin fight back — donate here. crowdjustice.com/case/fighti…
