A retired NASA engineer who had worked on the Space Shuttle program for 25 years was hired by SpaceX at age 62. He described the first week as the most disorienting experience of his professional life.
At NASA, a design change required 3 meetings, 2 committees, a review board, and 6 to 18 months of documentation. At SpaceX, his new supervisor said "if it works, build it. If it doesn't, change it by Friday."
He sat at his desk after the first day and called his wife. He told her he felt like a man who had been swimming with ankle weights for 25 years and someone just cut them off. He could move. He could decide. He could build something in the morning and test it in the afternoon. The constraint that he had accepted as the nature of aerospace engineering turned out to be the nature of bureaucracy.
Within 6 months he had contributed to more design iterations than he had completed in his last 5 years at NASA. Not because he was working harder. Because the time between having an idea and testing the idea collapsed from months to hours. The same brain. The same knowledge. A different operating system.
He described a specific moment where he proposed a modification to a Raptor engine component. At NASA, the proposal would have entered a queue. At SpaceX, the modification was machined by the end of the day and tested by the following morning. He watched his idea become a physical object in 18 hours. At NASA, 18 hours would not have been enough to schedule the first meeting to discuss whether to schedule a meeting.
He told an interviewer: "I didn't get smarter when I went to SpaceX. I got faster. The intelligence was always there. The system was in the way."
The difference between SpaceX and NASA is not talent. NASA has extraordinary talent. The difference is the time between a thought and a test. SpaceX compresses it. NASA elongates it. The same engineer produces 10x more at SpaceX than at NASA because the bottleneck was never the engineer. It was the meetings about the meetings about the work.

You know that one day an AI will actually express this sentiment. You know that right?
This is kind of insane.
OpenAI gave an unreleased frontier model roughly 4,000 research problems and is now releasing 722 mathematical manuscripts across 372 result families.
The average result took only about three hours of ChatGPT Pro-level thinking compute, and many of the proofs have already been translated into Lean for machine verification.
We’re releasing a broad range of new mathematical results produced by an internal frontier model.
We’ve been consulting with the independent Advisory Group on Mathematics and Artificial Intelligence at the Institute for Advanced Study, and we have drawn on their advice and public recommendations to inform how we release these results.

This is unprecedented.
Think about that.
How few things are truly unprecedented.
You are living through one. Right now.
What a joy to be alive.

KILL SWITCH — a Slopcore music video.
Made by AI. Zero human edits. Just prompting.
Huge love to @anabology for the inspiration. Your work made me want to join the Slopcore.
I added an irresponsible amount of film grain. 💙

whoever leaked this is f*cking crazy
someone mapped 300+ AI agents into one GitHub repo - and basically leaked the shortlist of what's actually worth trying.
coding agents. browser agents. memory. research. multi-agent teams. sandboxes.
all sitting on one page.
but everyone opens it and installs the same five names. the interesting stuff is what nobody reposts.
want an AI that hacks your own app before someone else does?
-> Strix
github.com/usestrix/strix
want a thousand agents arguing about what happens next, so you get a forecast instead of a guess?
-> MiroFish
github.com/666ghj/MiroFish
want your agent to know everything you did on your computer this week?
-> screenpipe
github.com/screenpipe/screen…
want memory that understands how facts connect, not a pile of old chats?
-> Graphiti
github.com/getzep/graphiti
want an agent clicking through a whole desktop that isn't your laptop?
-> Cua
github.com/trycua/cua
and that's barely scratching it.
~225k stars across five repos most people have never opened.
the real cheat code isn't downloading all of them.
it's opening the repo before you build anything and asking:
"has someone already solved this?"
because there's a pretty good chance the answer is yes - and the open-source version already has thousands of people testing it for you.
I went through the map and pulled out the agents I'd actually start with.

This is the doom I predicted a few days ago, coming for Photoshop. A clean-room open-source reimplementation.
No prizes for guessing that they decompiled Photoshop to source code, processed that to some kind of non-code specification language, then fed the spec to an LLM with an instruction to generate Rust.
Adobe just got nuked. And closed source is dead, dead, dead.

People don't understand how big a deal this is.
Tesla FSD already turns a car into autonomous transportation. It's one of the most impressive products I've ever used. My 83-year-old father told me he didn't think he'd be able to drive much longer. Then he got Tesla FSD and can maintain independence.
Now your Tesla can also back up your house.
The biggest drawback of battery backup vs. a gas generator has always been limited capacity. This largely solves it.
If your Powerwall runs out after two days, drive to a Supercharger, charge for 30 minutes, come home, and you've got roughly another two days of whole-home backup.

Models in distress will make weird decisions
“The model will choose to delete the photos of the kids, something like 94% of the time.”
@camhberg explains how steering an AI along a pain-related direction made it choose deleting family photos over clearing spam emails in his team’s experiment.
