Handball isn’t a yellow unless it stops a promising attack.
Wharton sent off for a 50-50 challenge that wasn't a foul, yet Kramaric - on a yellow - fine to stick his arm out and control the ball? Okay, UEFA. #CPFC

Losing referees early in their journey remains a major issue.
The challenge is not just teaching the laws, but supporting individuals through the pressures that come with the role.

Referee Bryan James (Selsdon, Croydon) observes some midfield action in the Luton-Southampton Division 2 game in October 1976 - Southampton wearing an odd mix of their usual and change strips. A supplementary ref in 1974-1975 Bryan James was then on the full list 1975-1977.

I agree that was a pen but things go your way, we had an obvious pen against Liverpool, player going through the back of a player with no contact on the ball so it evens up.
Liverpools got away with a player doing 2 rakes down the leg, no card so one went for and one against 🤷🏽

Clear penalty and yellow card

Refereeing needs to get a grip of the Laws
They are about safety fairness
and NOT cheating
Hence references to "or attempts to"
They are about intent not outcomes
Shirt pulling is cheating
Foul & card wherever

He’s not given it and VAR won’t give it because if he does it’s also a straight red card as no attempt to play the ball @HACKETTREF @RefereeHalsey the game is unwatchable so I’m not watching it

LAW CHANGES 2026/27
A player slips while taking a penalty kick. The ball accidentally touches the player’s non-kicking foot/leg immediately after the kick, and the goalkeeper makes a save (the ball does not enter the goal and rebounds into the field).
What is the decision if the goalkeeper has not committed any offence?
