EXCERPTS FROM A FUTURE PAST by HALLAS
I would tell you I dont like prog so the fact that these Swedish prog wizards are a favorite says something. Hints of Yes, Genesis, Wishbone Ash, etc all wrapped in a story of a mystical medieval world
I think I walked myself into running our Winter Disc Golf League today. Bad habit of being an organizer who gets looped into these things.
7 teams at 7 courses. We play a round of match and a round of doubles. Rain, shine, 3 feet of snow, 15 degrees. Were out there

THE SATANIST by BEHEMOTH
While I was always into extreme metal perhaps no album kindled a journey down the rabbit hole more than this one. It sounds so massive like the forces of hell itself opening up
"Your company has decided that the company treated you fairly"
The NFL has concluded that the process surrounding Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts being cleared to play in Week 5 with a superficial blood clot “was handled appropriately,” a league source tells @TheAthletic nytimes.com/athletic/7708077…

BRAINCHILD by CIRCLE OF DUST
Industrialized thrash metal. Originally a side project since rereleased as a CoD album. They were unique because they weren't trying be another NIN and he makes great use of audio sampling to build sonic layers
BLOOD THAT I SPILL ... by FIREBREATHER
Swedish doom band. In a year with a lot of good doom releases this still managed to stand out. Fuzzy ala Monolord or similar. By the end of this I had stopped what I was doing listen and thats not common
Been a lil over a month since I played in a disc golf tourney. Weather looks nice. Feeling good right now.
Tourney scene is dead. Played all 4 years. First time field not only not full its only half
THE LIGHT THAT KEEPS US by MOTHER OF GRAVES
People will be taking about this one for a good while. In the world of doom this is as good as it gets. These songs are layered and artfully constructed. The mood of the music flows so well with the sorrow of the lyrics.
Wife and I walked around the neighborhood a bit. Went to the Museum of Illusions. It was pretty cool if a bit brief. Ended up eating Navratan Korma at the place where I first discovered Indian food a frw decades back
DISC GOLF COURSE #131
Woodcock Creek in Saegertown PA
Plays through some beautiful deep dark forest as well as open grassland. It starts off so strong. Back 9 doesn't quite hold up. There are some fun elevation shots here and a lot of distance

RECIPE FOR HATE by BAD RELIGION
I dont like all punk but I love Bad Religion and it started here. The world is burning politics mixed with their melodic approach works so well. Songs like Struck a Nerve are just so damn catchy.

THEATRE OF PAIN by MOTLEY CRUE
Context is key. Im 10 years old and just convinced Dad to get me this cassette in our Columbia House "12 free tapes".
A huge bridge for me from the Def Lep/Scorps/Ratt era into the hair metal explosion to come. Fave lp if not best
GUILLOTINE by HATESPHERE
At heart I'll always be a 14 year old thrash kid looking for the next great band. These Danes deliver consisitent albums chock full of tasty riffs. Maybe not innovative but not everything has to be
Negative points for lame cover art
PALACE FOR THE PEOPLE by GRETA VAN FLEET
Criticism is usually lazy and rehashed. 2 albums ago they reinvented as arena rock powerhouse with majestic anthems showcasing real talent.
They seem to be retreading here though. A band stuck between expectations and criticisms
Were I to do last years AOTY list all over this would rank highly. I totally slept on how much this bands rocks and shes a powerhouse vocalist
YOU'RE WEAK AND YOU KNOW YOU'RE WEAK by WEREWOLVES
Death metal has to hit the right niche for me to really enjoy and boy this does it. 35 min of brutality with riffs galore but they know when to settle into a groove. I like his vocal style also
