WELKER: What do you say to voters who say they're struggling and want change?
BESSENT: Well, why don't we revisit the Biden-era policies
WELKER: President Trump has been in office now for 636 days, and inflation was at 3% when he took office, it's 3.7% now. At what point does the administration take responsibility?

I joined @notthefakeSVP last night and he asked a simple question: Who is the expanded college football playoff for?
It will end up being for no one.
We care about this sport a lot and we tried to put it into words.

Sacrificed the best regular season in sports so that 8-4 Big Ten teams can lose by 13. Awesome stuff.

Inside Man City turmoil after Premier League guilty verdict | ✍️ @hirstclass
From players planning escape routes and staff fearing for their jobs to defiance from Pep Guardiola and Enzo Maresca, the club has been engulfed in chaos thetimes.com/sport/football/…
Beyond embarrassing take
I watched the F1 film with Brad Pitt the other day, and there’s a moment where his character asks to add something to the car that isn’t really in the rules. The FIA punishes it, but the team can still race with the earlier car. It made me think.
In F1, the best teams live at the edge of the regulations. Sometimes the FIA allows what they’ve found, and sometimes it says that goes too far. Occasionally the rules are rewritten afterwards.
Now, City. I’m not defending them. A commission found they entered into sham agreements and broke the spending limits. A sham is an arrangement that isn’t what it claims to be, so that’s a different thing from using a gap nobody had spotted.
City deny it and will appeal. But I find it useful to ask/reflect on how people inside the club see it.
From their point of view, PERHAPS they believe they were doing what elite competitors do: looking at the rules, finding the limits, challenging interpretations and moving faster than the regulatory system.
From the outside, you might look at that and say, “That’s cheating.” From inside the organisation, they might say, “We found something nobody had thought of.”
If you believe you’ve found a way to bring money in, more or less within the rules (and the commission said it was not in the rules and it was cheating), you might tell yourself you’re just being a sharp competitor.
We are all asking “did City cheat?”. But I find this question interesting too: “how did City come to believe they weren’t?”
And understanding a mindset, or trying to, isn’t excusing it.

Manchester City were found guilty of 114 out of 115 charges by an independent commission. The comparison made is not in the same ball park to the level of rule breaking Man City have committed.

These people are in a fucking cult. There’s no talking or reasoning with them. Complete lunatics living in a fantasy world.
Trump fans in Oklahoma: "He's gonna fix it. Believe in him, stand strong ... all the abortion, it's evil. That's one thing that Trump stands for is us Christians. We're being killed everywhere. I want to see two people -- Trump and Jesus ... we do not want Muslims taking over ... I have horrible thoughts. I don't think they should be here. This isn't their country ... they need to pack up their stuff and go back to where they came from."
Sacrificing what makes college football great for another TV paycheck…game is gone
CFP leaders are closer than ever to expanding to a 24-team playoff. They are talking buyouts of conference title games and scheduling logistics of doubling the field.
Foregone conclusion?
“If we can get a decent (TV) deal, we are definitely going to 24.”

The first time it happens, you’re surprised. One day, your friend with the roommates and the wobbly employment and the busted phone — they buy an apartment. They tell you they’re moving, then they admit they’re buying, and suddenly you’re standing in the living room they own. It’s not that you’d never talked about money, if you count the years spent passing $17 back and forth on Venmo; it’s just that you thought you were on the same track. That when you said “broke,” you understood it to mean the same thing. It’s as if you were both paddling aimlessly in New York’s sea of downward mobility when your friend burst out of the water and stumbled onto the beach.
The source of the apartment is not a mystery. It’s parent money. When the job is nonprofit and the trips are European, when the work is too freelance and their kids’ school too private, when they close on a co-op before they finish their dissertation, sure, it could be crypto. It could be sex work. But if you know someone under 50 who owns their apartment, who’s out every night, or who sends their kid to private nursery school and still has money left for vacation, it’s safe to assume there’s a baby-boomer behind them.
“New York has always been stuffed with rich kids chasing the dream on Daddy’s dime,” writes Madeline Leung Coleman. “However, it didn’t always feel as if those were the only people who could live here — as if the whole city bent to the budgets of the secretly funded. It does feel that way now.”

they’re never going to talk to you again and there’s nothing you can do about it short of completely changing your ways. this is the future you wanted where you’re in charge of everything and have all the money and everyone you love hates you, enjoy the hell of your own making
Well, this is sad and terrible:
“Many experts believe that estrangements between adult children and their parents are becoming an epidemic in the U.S.”
“Psychologists say young adults’ definition of harmful parental behavior is changing.”
They “consider ordinary conflict to be much worse than it once was” and “have a much broader definition than their elders of psychological harm.”
“Many now view repeated criticism, strong disagreements and other painful relationship conflicts as abusive.”
“In their minds, they see themselves as more enlightened and therefore more justified to cut off for more reasons.”
