Iβm sorry. Leaving to play the World Cup is not the same as putting your life on the line to go and fight for your country. We canβt possibly sit here and act like this is the same. This comparison completely disrespects any active or retired service member.
Everyone is running with emotions here. Birth of your child is important, Leaving the World Cup to go witness the birth of your child?β¦.. Coming to the World Cup is like going to war for your country, will a soldier leave the war front and go home because his wife is about to give birth?
And itβs not even just about that. If he knew from the start he wasnβt going to stay till the end, why accept the call-up in the first place? Why not reject it outright and let someone else take that spot?
International tournaments are built on commitment, sacrifice, and team unity. One player leaving in the middle of it disrupts preparation, changes plans, and creates unnecessary distractions in camp. At that level, every detail matters.
Family is important, no doubt. But timing matters too. And once you answer that call, especially for the biggest tournament in football, your responsibility shifts to the team until the mission is done.
The his last is a dumb ass. I bet youβd all be talking about how much of a selfish person he would be if he didnβt go. Foh
π¨πΆ JΓ©rΓ©my Doku could temporarily leave Belgium's World Cup camp to be present for the birth of his son, and the debate has exploded across Europe. π§πͺ
French journalist France Pierron didn't hold back:
π£οΈ Pierron: "Are you seriously telling me these players have sacrificed everything to come to the World Cup, and you're leaving just to cut an umbilical cord? π³
You're lucky enough to play in a World Cup. It's an incredible privilege, and hundreds of footballers would do anything to be in your position. That opportunity might never come around again in your life.
And you're going to throw it all away just to attend your child's birth?
It's a moment where the father isn't really needed. He has a symbolic role. You hold her hand and take a photo. And then what?
You're going to miss 10 hours, experience an emotional high, and be exhausted afterwards. You can't miss a World Cup.
Some people may have gone into debt just to get to the World Cup, maybe sacrificed everything to be there, and you're leaving to cut an umbilical cord..." π³
The reaction has completely split fans. Some believe family comes before everything, while others see the World Cup as an opportunity that may never come around again. π
What would you do: stay with your national team or be there for your son's birth? π€

My wife is pregnant with our sixth child, we refused the Trisomy 21 test for all of our kids. We donβt care. The baby will live.
Yes, even if he has something that means I have to take care of him until Iβm 80. I get to love and care for my son my entire life. Thatβs the point.
