No-one should go away to University and never come back. Thoughts with all in Nottingham, at the University and the students I’m privileged to know. It could’ve so easily been anyone walking home

It is with great sadness that we confirm the sudden and unexpected death of two of our students following a major incident in #Nottingham city centre overnight. We are shocked and devastated by the news and our thoughts are with those affected, their families and friends. (1/2)

Unsurprisingly an abject failure. Giving Mags more powers was always going to be a disaster. At least Govt’s been forced to recognise that.
Govt to return magistrates’ sentencing powers to 6mths “as we pointed out last January increasing magistrates’ sentencing was a bad idea for reasons of increasing: ⬆️Short prison sentences ⬆️Defendants electing to go to Crown Court ⬆️Appeals in Crown Court” Chair @Kirsty_Brimelow

For 3 seasons Happy Valley has really been about 1 person. Rather than try and draw together interesting, but actually unimportant side plots-this was about what mattered. What an impeccable example of how to finish an incredible piece of TV. Sally Wainwright. Hats bloody off👏🏼

That has to be one of the best sung national anthems ever. Just awesome. #AFCChampionship

Easy to look at the immediate effect of strikes but ask why seemingly all in the public sector - ambulance workers to teachers, civil servants to nurses - are taking action. Public services are broken

My own profession @TheCriminalBar stopped action months ago. So that can’t be blamed for the lack of space in a Crown Court tomorrow to sentence a 16yo lad I represent currently in custody. On the daily, strikes or no strikes, our public services are broken

I remember being very surprised to see the odious Andrew Bridgen MP at a law profession dinner a few years ago in Leicester. Not sure why he was invited but glad he’s now been seen for who he is

Goodness. Toni Crews is just an amazing woman. Her family are so incredibly strong.
A huge thankyou to Luc and Lizzie for supporting our sixth form @carresgrammar students prepare for forthcoming interviews.

Jeff Cook, co-founder of “Alabama,” passed away today. Known for his guitar and vocal skills, nothing was better than the “fiddle player” from Alabama.

Tory leadership carousel continues. You utter embarrassments
The Chris Mason interview is just devastating. Truss looks utterly defeated after just a month in office and doesn’t seem to believe anything she’s saying. Do the right thing

Hunt is a breath of fresh air. But he’s too little, too late. If Tory members weren’t so obsessed with fighting a culture war, fetishising their ‘fight against woke’ and coming up with ludicrous, juvenile slogans - this could’ve been their future, rather then the demise.

Criminal barristers may now be ‘back to work’ - but victims, witnesses and those accused of the most serious offences will continue to be a part of a criminal justice lottery.

Courtrooms are still routinely broken and unfit for purpose. Or there are insufficient staff and Judges to open them. Cases are still floated in optimistic warned lists with no real prospect of being heard for many months/years. The cycle continues.
