The worst! Seniors fall into this trap daily.
Think you need tech support? Think again! Scammers trick you into paying for fake problems through pop-ups, texts, and calls. Adults over 60 are especially vulnerable, with losses over $1.3 billion in 2023. Learn to protect yourself and your loved ones: fbi.gov/scams

You've probably heard/seen the current takeover scam where someone joins a meeting link and asks you to update software. (Do not do this!) Just jumped into a call with a friend who must have been recently taken over - she joined my Zoom link, and I could see "her" adjusting her mic and computer settings, but she claimed she couldn't see or hear me. She then kept asking me to join her conference link, instead. (Did not do this!) Deepfake video is getting unfathomably good - stay frosty out there

Thirty-five years before deepfakes became a daily headline, Terminator 2 had already shown what machine-to-machine deception looks like. On the surface, it's a quiet scene of family drama: John calls his foster mother, and the voice on the other end sounds warm, normal, and completely believable. But the T-800 sitting beside him asks one simple question, "What's the dog's name?" John answers "Max." The voice on the phone says "Wolfie." That single mismatch exposes the T-1000 mimicking her voice, and it's a surprisingly sharp piece of authentication logic: not a password or a face scan, just one small detail only the real person would know. That's the part that lands differently now. Strip away the sci-fi and what you're watching is two systems probing each other for authenticity, hunting for the one inconsistency that gives a fake away. In 1991, it read as paranoid fiction. In 2026, it reads like a documentary premise, with voice clones convincing enough to fool family members, AI scams impersonating relatives in real time, and security teams now recommending the same low-tech trick the movie used: ask something only the real person would know, or agree on a family code word. The film wasn't really warning us about killer robots. It was warning us about a world where proving who is real becomes a contest between machines, with humans caught somewhere in the middle, increasingly unsure which voice to trust

So many seniors being taken advantage of!
Americans are losing up to $15 billion a year to online scams. We are building a global coalition to shut these criminal networks down and keep American dollars in American pockets. Working alongside Meta, Microsoft, and other tech leaders, our task force have already seized more than $400 million in stolen cryptocurrency -- and we're just getting started.
