It's nice to see @MemorialU offering @LUMUN_NL more money, but let's not pretend their offer isn't almost completely eaten up by inflation. $5000 has been the base pay since 2015. If it had kept up with inflation, it would be around $6368.

(To be clear, I added a year of inflation to account for MUN basing their increase totals on the 2025 compensation of $7321, vs. the 2024 compensation of $7169)

The higher up on the LUMUN pay scale you already are, the smaller the difference gets. Adjusted for inflation, the highest rate of $5875 (implemented in 2018) is $7062. In 2025, with 2.5% inflation, it will be $7234. Which in terms of actual buying power is a raise of .... 1%.

I appreciate @MemorialU taking the time for a town hall, and for asking my questions. BUT! It was frustrating that every other answer was "it's too early to tell," or "we have to wait until the @MUNfaculty strike is over."

The University knew this was coming—why didn't they plan for it? From all appearances, you've deliberately left instructors and students in the dark, when you could have put together solid contingency plans. Maybe some collegial governance would help with the long-term planning?

Job #2 at @MemorialU (because Job #1 (teaching as a PCI) doesn't pay the bills) is working at a music-affiliated research centre at the ACC. I might have to cross the @MUNFaculty picket lines twice a week, but I will bring cookies until we have a #FairDealAtMUN

I know my future-self will thank me for developing all these rubrics, but current me is really wishing future-self would just take one for the team.
I used @Metopera's on-demand service for my opera classes when I had grad-school access, but if you're looking for greater diversity in operas and staging aesthetics, @medicitv is a much better choice. Looking forward to showing my students some boundary-pushing productions!
