"Jewish trauma" is such a funny phrase to use in 2026. What trauma, the barista got their name wrong at Starbucks?
A little outside my usual lane, but this needs to be said.
1/2
Since Abdulās interview with Ezra Klein, Iāve watched parts of our movement go after him. On Wednesday, protesters chanted ātraitorā at Zohran. I know Iāll be attacked for saying this,Ā but I canāt stay quiet anymore while we turn on two of the most powerful advocates for Palestine in US politics.
I think weāre missing the bigger picture.
Zohran and Abdul are not only reaching millions of Americans outside our bubble, they're changing the way those Americans see Arabs and Muslims.
For decades, Hollywood portrayed us as terrorists and religious extremists, a threat to the West. In Reel Bad Arabs, Jack Shaheen documented how Hollywood systematically depicted Arabs as villains across more than 900 films, and that was even before 9/11. I have no doubt that thisĀ dehumanizationĀ contributed enormously to the lack of empathy Palestinians received for decades.
Now look at Abdul and Zohran. They're putting Arabs and Muslims in the middle of American political life as competent, principled American politicians, talking about healthcare, housing and the things that affect Americans' daily lives, without abandoning Palestine. A perfect example of that is Abdul's interviews on Fox. If you haven't seen them, I urge you to watch them before passing any further judgment. He was so compelling and so eloquent that even Jesse Watters, the Fox host, said afterward: āI like him. I donāt want to like him.Ā I like him for some stupid reason.ā
And it's not just that. ZohranĀ warned that Gaza was on the brink of genocide on October 13, 2023, and Abdul was calling it a genocide by October 21. Long before they became prominent political figures, they took enormousĀ risks by challenging the boundaries of acceptable political discourse.
And look how much those boundaries have shifted since.Ā Without a doubt, Zohran taking that stance and winning in New York home to the largest Jewish community outside Israel was one of the biggest drivers of the broader shift weāre seeing within the Democratic Party.
Kamala Harris, who many hate for denying and enabling the genocide in Gaza is now endorsing Abdul, who calls Gaza a genocide and wants to stop arms sales to Israel. If that isn't a win for the movement, what is? And yet instead of celebrating it, we're angry at Abdul for receiving her endorsement.
Abdul did all this while also acknowledging the Jewish trauma from the Holocaust in his interview with Ezra Klein. Isn't that exactly what we've always wished politicians would do: represent all their constituents, including Jewish people, while refusing to compromise their moral principles?
And that trauma isĀ real forĀ Jewish people. What we Palestinians hate is how Israel has used that trauma to justify our oppression and dispossession.
Just to clarify: I donāt agree with everything they both say either. In the Ezra Klein interview, I wish Abdul had talked more about Palestinian trauma and what happened in 1948 as people don't understand it in the same way we all understand the trauma of the Holocaust.
But why does the responsibility of explaining that fall solely on him? Yes, he could have done better, but so could we as a movement.

Yeah you guys just donāt understand how power works. The mayor has to keep Jess Tisch. Not firing a police commisioner who instructs her officers to protect mercenaries who fire bullets into cars with 5 year olds inside is 4D chess.

"Why are you hating on him?! He's just the mayor!"
Things Mamdani could have done as Mayor but chose not to:
- Ending illegal Palestinian land sales in synagogues
- Dismantling the nypd's SRG units
- Firing Jessica Tisch
- Standing with the BDS movement
- Not legitimize US state propaganda about our enemies through clear rhetoric (Venezuela, Cuba, etc.)
- Stopping all citywide funding for Zionist institutions
- Actually describing what socialism is (news flash: it's not about reforming capitalism...)

if i had a 100 bullets and both daron bland and adolf hitler were in front of me, iād shoot daron 50 times and save the other 50 for when i see jake ferguson
when he finally does it after months of pressure from protestors who campaigned for him, liberals on here will tell you it was inevitable anyway
remember who told you holding politicians accountable was wrecker behavior

āmamdani hate is a psyopā well no but establishing a āsocialistā mayor and then allowing him to gain popularity via city infrastructure maintenance & a generational publicity campaign so people feel justified in ignoring his capitulation to violent imperialism might be!

To all the non New Yorkers crying about Zohran being called out, Iād like to remind you during his campaign he himself said if he doesnāt maintain his promises he wants people on the street to call him out. But hey maybe thatās just another lie.

Material actions Zohran has taken to benefit Israel:
- $7 million for Zionist propaganda orgs to 'fight antisemitism'
- Deployed NYPD to protect land sales & Netanyahu
- Appointed fanatical Zionist as police commissioner

Idolizing Mamdani is actually dangerous, and it's largely by people who are politically disengaged. They've created an environment where no one can criticize and protest him, which is happening as he backtracks on public housing, policing, education, and Palestine.

One of the simplest things he can do is not go to the pro Israel rally. He did not do that. Fire the police commissioner like his two predecessors. He did not. Like come tf on
