Great to see the bats of Buckfastleigh in a feature by @samblackledge for @ITVWestCountry. Many of these bats emerge from the largest known greater horseshoe bat maternity roost in W Europe, managed by Vincent Wildlife Trust for this species. itv.com/news/westcountry/202…

Finally managed to film Natterer’s bats mating in the swarming site we’re studying. It’s a surprisingly lengthy and noisy affair.
We watched the two bats arrive from outside, take up residence in the tube, then start mating.
Here’s a shortened version, sorry no sound.
