“If we have anything remotely resembling a creed, it is the Baptist oral tradition that insists, ‘Ain’t nobody but Jesus gonna tell me what to believe.’” — James Dunn
A Reflection for this 250th Independence Day: I spend some time thinking through some of my own thoughts amid an ever present tension: To whom or what does a Christian owe their true allegiance? Read more at my Substack (link in bio, or below)
A very quick reminder for my local folks: The "Charlotte Way" is not actually a good way to govern. It sacrifices the voices and participation of the most marginalized in favor of creating even more space at the table for those who already have it all.
Juneteenth should remind all of us: A promise delayed is a promise denied. There are many great things about this country. We should celebrate and honor that good. But, there are many sins for which we must collectively repent and offer repair and reconciliation.

The replies here, as well as on Facebook, are like, "But rural areas!" Revolution-era rural areas America had churches too, and the number of people who were "pioneers 3-days wagon ride away" were minuscule. Some of my ancestors are buried in a rural church established in 1757.
Is this place still worth hanging out in? First time logging in, viewing, and posting in months. What's up, y'all. Are there any of my people still here?
There is something distinctly disturbing about this. Talking of outbreeding other people who one hopes go “extinct.” Deeply anti-human.
The math behind this is actually really fascinating, and it explains why the Left has to rely so much on institutional capture and mass migration to remain alive.
The children of Liberals adopt their worldview 89% of the time, while Conservatives see their kids adopt theirs 81% of the time.
But this advantage on the Left is dwarfed by the fact that they’re essentially an anti-catalyst movement.
We know that women have kids at a higher rate than men across the board, but Conservative men have kids at a higher rate than even Liberal women.
This means that ~59% of Conservatives become parents, while just ~31% of Liberals do.
That’s almost a 2X fertility advantage.
And when you multiply those numbers by the ideological detainment rate on both sides, you see that:
59% x .81 = 47.8
31% x .89 = 27.6
So that rounds to a minimum of 48 Conservative-aligned children per 100 Conservative adults, compared to a minimum of just 28 Liberal-aligned children per 100 Liberal adults.
Conservatives are reproducing their worldview at ~70% higher rate per adult than liberals.
And this is a minimum estimate because all our math here assumes that both the Conservable and Liberal families had only one kid, but we know Conservatives on average have much larger families.
The Left can’t compete with this organically, so they have to essentially steal the children of Conservatives through the education and media system (which they’ve all ideologically hijacked) and import new voters who will make up for their own collapsing birthrates.
If you ended all immigration and dismantled their dominance over education, the Left would be extinct in 20 years.
"Servant leadership" is just a buzzword until you're the one breaking a sweat carrying boxes for event setup, staying late to fold chairs after the event, or doing the next-day post-event data entry. Leadership is 10% vision or platform and 90% service and administrative work.
If the world feels very heavy right now, you're not alone and you're not wrong. That feeling you have to want to solve it all, to take away the pain and hurt: that just makes you human. Take deep breaths. Pray. Find time to rest. Find and build community. We're in this together.
Fourteen years ago today, I attended my first worship service at my now-home church in Charlotte. I'd made a New Year resolution to get back into church, after years of intermittent church shopping. St. John's had been waiting for me the entire time.

It took five years before I was ready to join as member, but this is where my adult faith has been formed, my ministry calling has come into focus, where I was married last October.

Armed officers of a pseudomilitary government agency specifically trained to turn against and target the people living and working under its jurisdiction is never a good idea, is a sign of democratic backsliding, and will always inevitably lead to fatal consequences. Abolish ICE.
Moving to Charlotte in 2007, I was just a blogger-turned-rookie journalist with a laptop. I didn’t know that this city would become the place where I’d find my voice, my calling, my husband, and a life rich with meaning and purpose. The Queen City isn't perfect, but it is home.
I saw a TikTok post this morning of a 20-something trans creator explaining the emotional and spiritual toll the world has taken recently. There's nothing scarier than seeing the light and joy in someone else's eyes start to dim. 1/2
Epiphany is a season of revelation and manifestation. While God alone is the builder, God call us into active involvement and participation in God’s mission on earth.
How we respond — what kind of bricks we’ll mold for the building of this city — is entirely up to us. Will we build cities of power and conquest? Cities of indifference? Or cities of care, compassion, and community?
