The 10-year Treasury yield fell 5 basis points today, fueling a broad stock rally. Odds of an October 28 Fed rate hike dropped to 26% from 69% last week, helped by Fed calls for patience.
Tomorrow’s jobs and unemployment reports are huge. Softer data will push yields lower and extend the rally, while stronger numbers should stall it.
Meanwhile, Iran war headlines remain in flux. Reports suggest Gulf oil exports are nearing pre-war levels, weakening Iran’s leverage over the Strait and potentially strengthening US hand in negotiations.
US stocks have significantly outperformed foreign stocks over the last decade or so! Which do you buy?
“AI is going to steal everyone’s jobs” assumes a fixed amount of economic output. Where it took 10 analysts to do 1 deal, now the same 10 could likely do 50 deals in the same time. We have already seen the effect of AI on economic growth.
Inflation has come down from its highest levels earlier in the month. As oil prices continue to come down, inflationary pressures will ease. Economic growth driven by AI continues to be a positive force on the markets. I forecast that with inflation cooling off, markets will return to all time highs.
As oil prices begin to fall, inflation has fallen abruptly. Is this what we need in order to see equities go higher? I will be watching oil and inflation as a trigger for stocks to go higher.
If we've learning one thing this year: Stocks can coexist with 5% or even higher yields if earnings and nominal GDP are growing fast enough.

Can see inflation moving in step with oil. Markets won’t be able to rebound until these pressures come down.

If AI and growth are the reason for high US yields wouldn’t you expect it to be the same in China? And they’re also dealing with inflation from high oil prices. 🤨
The issue in the market right now is not growth or AI fear. AI earnings are exploding and jobs are in very good condition.
The issues that are driving a market correction are inflation and rates. Inflation, caused mostly by oil, is causing the market to price in a rate hike by the fed. This is happening at the same 10 as rates on the long end are hitting 20 year highs…
The 5 strongest G10 currencies right now, as scored by Macro Engine. Agree? If not what’s the right order?
Stocks go up slowly over time and occasionally fall fast. Crypto falls slow over time and occasionally rises fast. We’re in the rise fast period right now.

How are yields on the long end hitting all time highs at the same time as stocks?Should be impossible. High yields should hurt share prices, but ai earnings are rising faster than this fear.
