Ten years ago tomorrow, the Manawatū Standard (@ManawatuNZ) - then an early afternoon paper, published the first print story on Scott Guy's death, written by @TheHowe . A brief, with scant information. It started a barely unbelievable six weeks for the provincial newsroom.

I was just reading a news article posted to Facebook that had more than 2000 comments, 150 shares and 1200 reactions. First comment: "This is not news".
I think it needs to be taught in schools that writing “slow news day” in the comment section of any online news story is a bad idea. I see it every day and it never fails to make me cringe in embarrassment, particularly when it’s on stories that are irrefutably newsworthy.
