ALT QueersInScience presents: Science at the Edge Rapid Climate adaptation: some of the science and a story behind the science - Dr Kay Hodgins (she/her) Dr. Kathryn Hodgins is a Senior Lecturer in Ecological Genomics at Monash University. Her lab blends ecological, evolutionary, and genomic approaches to elucidate how plants adapt to climate change. She is particularly fascinated by how plant invaders cope with the new environments they encounter as they expand across the landscape. Dr Hodgins conducted her PhD at the University of Toronto, where she studied the many ways plants have evolved to sexually reproduce. She moved the University of British Colombia as a Postdoctoral researcher to study climate adaptation in plants, where she also adapted to the local Vancouver climate by learning to snowboard.

ALT Associate Professor Deanne Fisher works in the Centre for Astrophysics and Supercomputing at Swinburne University. She enjoys studying galaxies using the largest optical and radio telescopes in the world. She has been a CARMA Research Fellow, Swinburne Director’s Research Fellow and an ARC Future Fellow. She also served as the Deputy Director for the Centre for Astrophysics at Swinburne. As a very exciting exclusive, during her talk Assoc. Prof. Deanne Fisher will be discussing data from the first year of James Webb Space Telescope!
