"The Gov't repeatedly said it was going to introduce permanently lower business rates, and businesses heard that and made decisions based on what they heard. Now their bills are going up."
Thank you to @libdemdaisy for highlighting the huge increase in rates facing the sector.

The UK could lose up to 9000 pubs.
From April, pubs with a rateable value of £100,000, will see business rates jump by £19,000 per year.
They will need to sell an additional:
60,000 pints a year.
Thats 1200 pints a week.
Thats 170 extra pints a day.
Thats before rising energy bills, wages and other costs.

The Gov't must URGENTLY review the Budgets announcement on Business Rates.
It's catastrophic for the economy. Will force closures, cost jobs, and crucify a sector that should be helping the economy grow and protect vital community spaces.

I don’t know of a SINGLE hospitality business that would like to stay open beyond the hours they are currently licensed for. This clueless Govt are desperate to throw up these nonsense smokescreens in an attempt to demonstrate they are helping the sector & boosting the economy.

February 20 is the day when we remember and commemorate those who made their choice—to be free, to build a strong, European Ukraine, and to resist subjugation. They sacrificed the most precious thing—their lives—so that we could live in a free state.
It was during these days in 2014 that Russia chose war, taking its first steps towards the occupation of Crimea. While people in Kyiv were being killed defending their freedom, Putin decided to launch another strike—a very vile one. Since then, the world has been living in a new reality, where Russia is trying to deceive everyone. It is crucial not to fall for it, to stand together. It is crucial to support those who defend freedom.
Eternal honor to the Heroes of the Heavenly Hundred. Eternal gratitude to all brave Ukrainians who have fought for Ukraine and its independence.

Jeremy Clarkson spells out hospitality reality “It’s galling to see how much effort is required to make so little money on farm. Worse at pub. The customers are coming. There’s no problem there. But turning their visits into a profit is nigh-on impossible” metro.co.uk/2025/01/07/jerem…

Instead of buying a load of unwanted rubbish for Xmas, take them to the pub instead.
As well as making memories, you'll be helping save the British Pub.
So much better than a pair of socks.

If only we had enough money to strike.
If the pubs, the restaurants and Hospitality were all closed.
People would soon sit up and notice.
Sadly none of have enough money to strike so we stay lame and quiet.
In France they would be rioting

I'm pleased to see The Chancellor has listened and agreed to extend the current Business Rates Relief in todays statement.
The extension will allow Hospitality operators a bit of breathing space.
We must now work together, in calling for a VAT reduction in the Spring Budget.

People forget we’re usually the last piece of the chain. Butchers costs go up, veg co’s cost rise, transport goes up, plus our costs, plus our huge disadvantage to supermarkets etc for vat. Hospitality have been throw to the wolves

❓ Could you afford an 82% increase in your energy bills? After the last 12 months of increases?
⚠️This is what pubs are facing next week.
One-third of pubs plan to open fewer days a week after energy bill support ends. For many, even this won't be enough to survive...

The details behind todays budget will provide little comfort for our members running pubs in every community. With many facing unfair crippling energy costs that threaten their very survival. Enhanced duty relief is welcome if felt directly by pubs but energy must be tackled now.
