This article really pisses me off because, if you read it, you can tell right off the bat that the only reason the cops were ever called on this woman in the first place is some male community security guard told her that she broke an HOA rule and she had the audacity to be a knowledgeable woman who told him he was mistaken as to the scope of his authority, and then escalated by conceding it was not an HOA bylaw and called the cops on her. I think that's what missing from the posts that I see discussing this. Sure, the criminalization of childhood independence is bleak, but what is replete throughout every article I have read about Ms. Parkinson is that she is obviously a well-educated woman who not only specializes in the law, but also childhood development, and she is continually penalized by male authority for not ceding to their unearned and mistaken sense that they know better than her. I really hope she succeeds in her appeal and sues the state for malicious prosecution, or whatever similar cause she can.
