you have to be humble enough to look at the facts and strong enough to act on them, and being humble takes strength too, so if you strip it all down, the way you make progress is wisdom and strength
courage has an xp bar just like strength does, you just can't see it, and because you can't see it you don't stick with it, so when the bar doesn't move right away we drift back to the things where it does and miss out on who we could have been
an emotional decision is a reactive decision, which means whatever you happen to be feeling in that moment picks the move, and the more you regulate your emotions the less reactive you are
you can hear exactly what went wrong on a sales call. can you explain the correction clearly enough that your salesperson could practice it tonight? that gap is where i'd work if i wanted to be a better sales manager
if you're avoiding the thing you know gets you closer to what you said you wanted, there's a good chance you just want the other thing more, and the conflict you feel is a good sign, because it means the new thing finally has something going for it
most people don't have a hard time buying the exercise plan or the book, they have a hard time going to the gym and reading the book, which makes it an adherence problem and not a commitment problem, and that's one we can actually solve
if you've sent the same salesperson the same feedback three times, the feedback probably isn't the problem. they may understand exactly what you mean and still not know how to do it, so role-play the moment they keep missing and check a call from later that week
you dont have to fight everything you feel
i spent years treating every bad feeling like a fire i had to put out before i could do anything else. most of them burn out on their own if you just keep moving
it can ride along man, it just doesnt get to drive
the comfortable lie removes the feeling. the useful truth removes the problem
most guys pick the first one every single day and then wonder why the problem is still sitting there in the morning
telling a salesperson to get better at discovery gives them nothing to do on the next call. pick the one question they skipped, show them how you'd ask it, have them say it back to you out loud, and now they have something to try the next time the phone rings
ur never restarting
guys who call every setback a "restart" just want a bigger hill so they can be the hero climbing it
things change all the time man. somethings always gonna go sideways. dont start over monday, just keep going today
a goal isnt going to give u something u dont already have
a goal is just stress u picked on purpose. u set it so u have to be patient, strong, brave etc to get through it. thats the whole point
the thing at the end is just the relief of not missing
how to make things go faster: make it go less distance
u cant run much faster than u already run. but u can move the gym closer to ur house, or call the guy back in 5 min instead of 5 days
most guys try to speed up the trip. shorter trip wins every time
optional goals are a brand new thing for humans
for basically all of history the goal was dont die. nobody built a castle cause they wanted a castle, they wanted to keep the enemy out
now we set goals that nobody is enforcing and wonder why we suck at sticking to them lol
A news outlet reporting on suicide increases the rates of suicide among people who consume that news outlet.
This means that if you consume the news, there's a higher probability that you will want to kill yourself
