HELLO.
Some of you might be new here. Where've you been all this time?
We're Caithness Broch Project, and we love brochs!
What are brochs, though? They're 40ft, multi-floored Iron Age towers, thought to be houses, found only in #Scotland.
AND WE WANT TO BUILD ONE!
A beautiful video, featuring wur very own Dawn Maclean. Please watch!

We're sorry to hear about Dr. Rena Maguire, who has passed away. She followed us from really *really* early days on here. Our thoughts go out to her family.

Scrabster Castle beside #WW2 Pillbox,Caithness (Scotland) It's thought there might be a broch underlying this medieval structure, which is thought to date to at least the 14th C. It may have even featured in the #Orkneyinga Saga! @TheBrochProject info/image turned into a mock-up.

Over a fifth of the local economy in the north Highlands, and around one in four jobs, are supported by the nuclear industry in Caithness and north Sutherland.
The only industry in the last 165 years to reverse post-clearance north Highland population decline.

Castle Sinclair Girnigoe by land.
Return visit as such a cool castle. Skylarks & curlew on walk in, fulmars nesting on cliffs and walls, hawk after rock doves, amazing geology and views. Talk of orca both north & south but I've not seen yet sadly.

Castle Sinclair Girnigoe from sea
Build in 1400s (possibly on older fortification), home to Earl of Caithness. Long mixed history with links to the St Clairs/Sinclairs, Rosslyn Chapel, Knights Templar, Orkney, and too much more for a tweet to cover. Cue Game of Thrones music...
