NEW: Activists in Germany Blockading Far-Right Youth Convention Violently Beat by Police Over 50,000 people attempted to block the founding convention for the new youth organization of the far-right AfD party on Nov. 29 in Gießen, Germany. Wide-ranging actions, including 19 blockades around the small city, prevented a majority of participants from attending. The AfD had dismantled its previous youth party after the German Intelligence Service declared it a right-wing extremist group. Police violently beat blockaders. Reports note a large drop in conference attendance with a few hundred participants of the expected thousands.

General Strike in Greece on Two-Year Remembrance of Deadly Train Disaster A nationwide general strike, led by families of the victims, unions, student groups, and a broad coalition of social movements, paralyzed Greece today in remembrance of the Tempi train disaster—the deadliest railway accident in Greek history. The strike is not only a day of mourning but a direct confrontation with a state that has failed to deliver justice, accountability, and safety for its people. Already in January, hundreds of thousands have taken to the streets after new revelations about the case shook the public. Leaked audio recordings of emergency calls from the victims—where some could be heard saying, “I don’t have oxygen.” There were also cover up attempts about illegal cargo that caused an explosion. These revelations reignited public anger and led to a nationwide campaign demanding justice, transparency, and an end to a political system that prioritizes profit over human lives. The pressure on the right-wing government of Kyriakos Mitsotakis has been mounting for months. The prime minister has survived a series of scandals: from the illegal surveillance of journalists and political opponents, to the mismanagement of wildfires and floods that devastated entire regions, to repeated cases of police violence and repression. However, the government is prepared for confrontation. In recent years, police forces have been expanded, better equipped, and granted near-total impunity to suppress dissent. The crackdown on protests has become a defining feature of Mitsotakis’ rule, with heavily armed riot squads, mass arrests, and violent dispersals becoming the norm. February 28 was no exception. Full multi-media report coming soon. See our 2023 report ‘It was a crime, not an accident!’ – Deadly Greek Train Crash Sparks Justice Movement at unicornriot.ninja/gr-57/
