At this point, it was a mercy kill.

All right, apparently this is some type of copy pasta of what I have no idea. But any excuse to talk about Lament of Innocence it’s cool with me. I actually do remember a lot of the magazines back in the day giving this game pretty middling reviews. Granted I played this game a year or two after it came out, but I did due to this day still enjoy it along with Curse of Darkness, but I do understand the criticism these games get especially when compared to games like Devil May Cry.
Devil May Cry 2 had come out earlier that year before Lament of Innocence and 3 came out in the same way for Curse of Darkness. Both these games kind of show what happens when you begin chasing gameplay trans especially ones that are still going through growing pains and not completely refined yet.
I kind of wonder Iga and company thought they could capture lightning twice combining Castlevania with Devil May Cry like they he did Castlevania with Metroid.
1. Fools and their money are soon parted.
2. Popularity and quality are not the same by that logic, the Twilight movies would be considered good.
2. Not exactly fair to compare a sequel to a game that was released on every platform under the sun versus a new IP that was PS5 exclusive for almost a year to eventually be released on Steam with Shift Up already making plans to release the game on Xbox and Switch.
But sure leave that stuff out, right?
WHAT?!

“Like a family…”
What kind of messed up families have you been a part of?
You know what, don’t answer that. It might explain why you were in that industry to begin with.
This has nothing to do with skill. If anything, the power ups actually kind of make this quite easy. The problem lies in the fact that this simply a case of tedious and repetitive game design made for the sake padding out the game.
Unfortunately, it’s hard to have discourse with one side that has a pure black-and-white mentality and think voting one way means you’re evil.

The more time you spend in gaming spheres online the more you realise every game fandom just has these two types of fans

Julius beat Dracula’s ass so hard he had to come back as a good guy.
Anyone still clambering for a Castlevania depicting Julius' battle against Dracula was never paying attention.
Julius is the apex of the Belmont clan. THE soldier of God himself. The whole bloodline was leading up to this guy.
He's the hardest boss in Aria, bringing down the castle around him, while both past his prime, and sandbagging you.
He was the hammer of divine justice against the Antichrist. He didn't deliver A defeat to Dracula, he KILLED him. He's the reason Castlevania's story has a conclusion.
Depicting the war of 1999 ruins the mystique. We get flashes of what may have gone down, but in the end it was two unfathomable powers duking it out, and good won in the end. Won soundly, too. Julius bears no scars from that battle, no missing limbs, just some mystery amnesia. Hell, just to convey how unfathomably powerful the guy is, they modeled his appearance after the director of the whole damn series.
You couldn't do him justice while sticking to the Castlevania formula. There's no upgrading Julius Belmont. Julius Belmont does not give a fuck about Medusa Heads, or bats, or Death itself. It took such a force to bring down Dracula once and for all that it wouldn't make a good video game anymore. The whole game would be the first few rooms from Symphony of the Night before Death swipes your equipment.
No, the only real criticism SOTN getting is that it felt a bit too easy for veterans Castlevania fans.
If there was any criticism regarding the series changing gameplay, it was so minute that it’s not even worth mentioning. After all, this was during a time when gaming was genuinely evolving so doing this type of stuff wasn’t met with such suspicion as it is now.
Belmont’s Curse can barely be considered an evolution when it’s basically copying games that were originally copying games like Souls AND Symphony.
In other words, it’s cerulean, though I sincerely doubt you understand that reference.
Even more so, as Bloodstained clearly shows that there is nothing inherently wrong with the system the series has been using for so long. Sometimes it’s not always about evolution. It’s about not fixing what’s not broken.
