A 59-page visual guide to what I'm doing with the VB language/compiler for ModVB. Hopefully this is the right height to let folks see the scale of the forest. It took a month to write. AFK for the rest of the day. anthonydgreen.net/2026/04/27…

I do get tired of fictional characters idolizing the footsteps of their dads and male ancestors so often. I would like to see more stories about e.g. a young man trying to live up to the memory of his grandmother in some area. Moms are admirable too.
If Kylo had idolized his grandmother instead of his grandfather… 🤔

Growing up the dream of home ownership wasn't asset management but rather owning a small parcel of land where you got to do just about whatever the f- you wanted. Sovereignty in a life/world of taking orders from other people. F- HOAs, I'd celebrate this as the American Dream.

Off-topic but, I love that after the DCEU his performance as Batman wasn't really a complaint I heard. I love it when someone beats the naysaying.
Ben Affleck reveals he writes Python, understands convolutional neural networks, worked extensively with GPUs, and used his celebrity status to get private looks at Google and OpenAI’s video models “I’ve always been kind of into computers since I was young. Then, when film started to move from analog film to digital, I became more interested in that aspect of it. The visual-effects workflow for many years has included machine learning, so I can write pretty shitty Python scripts and stuff like that. “With convolutional neural networks, which were the precursors to what the transformer can do, which is much more computation simultaneously, you would do things like look at what’s called a tensor. That’s the numerical translation of a visual image in numbers, like the batch number, the frame number and the red, green and blue values of each pixel in each frame. It’s just that simple. That numeric is called a tensor. “You’d use a convolutional neural network to identify patterns that reveal what’s called edge detection or feature extraction, which is identifying patterns well enough to know, this is where the window ledge is, so we can more easily take the green-screen image out and replace it with something. “That was familiar to me early on because, prior to Artists Equity, I had a small visual-effects company. I’ve worked with GPUs a lot too. The visual-effects guys said, ‘Hey, you should see. There are a couple: Google and this other company, OpenAI, are doing really interesting stuff with transformers in video.’ “I’ve learned that I can actually just call up and go, ‘Hey, it’s Ben Affleck. Can I come see what you’re doing?’ Sometimes people say yes, to my astonishment.”

I'm a firm believer that Christmas season must not start before Thanksgiving. We live in a society!
It's only the 3rd of October and I already heard Mariah Carey at the shops..

Worried? Literally my entire reason for purchasing the game. I don't like being forced to use "the main character" in a party RPG. Just ask Tidus.
Naoki Hamaguchi says Vincent's combat in FF7 Revelation feels so great to control that he is worried a lot of people will just use Vincent and not the other characters! He says you can freely switch between long-range gunslinger combat in his normal form and close-range melee combat in his Beast form at any time.

For the sake of argument I'll stipulate that the packets of binary data we transfer around are just that and that we're all pretending the data in the games are real creatures. *Pretending they're real creatures **IS** the game*. Games are all pretending shit and deriving joy from operating in that pretense. I pretend I can't physically move a chess piece wherever I want. I pretend we can't move our checkers at the same time. I pretend monopoly money is money. The game basketball isn't the rubber and nylon materials, it's the value we collectively project onto acting or not acting certain ways. And it's totally fine if you don't want to play "The floor is lava", just don't ask why all the kids care about getting from the couch to the love seat without stepping on carpet. It's a silly question. I've wanted a Raichu since I was a kid. I evolved one on Switch in Let's Go and finally was able to Mega Evolve it in Z-A on Switch 2 and it's fun--part of the game fun--that I did it that way. It would have been less fun if I'd just caught the pichu in the first area. Not completely devoid of fun but less fun. I thought about breeding a new one in Shield but it turned out that the way for me to have the most fun with this game was to treat the patterns of data like non-fungible creatures. That is the game.

swear to god, one of the happiest moments ive had in 25 years playing pokemon was when I figured out i had registered my pokémon from my first ever playthrough in stadium and I could retrieve them even though the original battery was long dead

NES Ninja Gaiden builds character. Or an interest in outdoor sports. One or the other.
If your kids want video games but you are worried about screen time The answer is simple, give them old school games .@modretro Old games are the opposite of addicting They are sadistically hard and will make your kid rage quit and go play outside Just like 90s kids did

So I'm turning to the Index at the back of this car manual and I wonder how many young adults and children have never had to use the index section and wouldn't think to do that when searching a "book".

It happened again. I caught sites and apps just ripping the Pokopia DLC coverage from Serebii; I accidentally put Cave Mushroom as a material in Bubbly Basin and bam, they all copied that. Plus all of my images too that I have done. Absolute cretins, the lot of them

Has anyone else also decided lately that they're okay forfeiting all "more personally relevant" ads forever in exchange for never having to answer these questions again? How much worse would my life be having to actively look for crap to buy? Spent just fine before the cookies.

After a certain point in a game I feel bad attacking "natural" creatures no longer a threat to me. Monster Hunter Rise felt abusive. Stealth attacking a camp of sleeping Bokoblins or attacking them when they're just looking for food. I can't 100% Xenoblade X. Am I weird?

I feel like we all just collectively decided never to keep ammonia in the same house and I think that's so wonderful. But because of that warning from childhood I'm always nervous about bleach mixing with anything else, like pine-sol. Soo scary. Safer to never clean.
My son texted me: “I just spilled bleach and baking soda all over the floor. What do I do?” I replied, “Throw a blanket over it.” A minute later he texted back, “Okay… now what?” I said, “Nothing. All our bases are covered.”

Does it mean something that that was my immediate first reaction to the picture? "Green isn't Math, it's Science!". Math is Blue but a different Blue from English. Social Studies it Red. Has this color coding of words and concepts phenomenon been studied?

Ok, to clarify my earlier colors were for the general subjects in primary school only. More specific courses vary. Algebra can be green. Biology can be red. Chemistry is yellow. Calculus might be orange. Statistics could probably be red though. Spanish is definitely red.
