Next up is the mercurial Malick Fofana.
Not only has his output caught the eye but so has his playing style. Here's my look at the winger's electric dribbling, awareness, some restrictive weaker foot over-usage, and much more.

Rice was surprisingly standoffish in a lot of these kinds of moments yesterday where you expect him to jump on the player in space, especially once they've committed to facing away from what he was covering. Bruno's absence from going box to box didn't help but it's hard not to
Not saying on another day he gets across and denies the goal bc it's a perfect finish, but even within the defence, there was a lot of hesitation in jumping onto players in front since Rice wasn't on top of it and there was a lot of fear created in the constant runs beyond in
I'm surprised we had better xG because their corner chances were really strong, but I'm not surprised we outdid them in open play. Had a handful of situations where we were incredibly wasteful, whereas their first major open play opening came right at the very end.
If we were going to put Rice at RB, we should've brought on MLS bc they're not slowing down in the press whatsoever
Also little moments where we held ourselves back in attack and defence that hurt us that half. Second guessing our marking of halfspace runs leaving too much space in front of the defence centrally, and not enough committed runs and movement beyond the player receiving the ball.
we've been so good at sustaining pressure in tight spaces down the right, as well as being dangerous in congestion. Have to back ourselves more against their pressure and lean into those congested areas, bc coming back out and playing to the underloads is too beneficial to them
This was much more a game for MLS. Their man to man press has been all over us, been crying out for stuff to break it open and haven't had any of what we get from MLS in those situations centrally. Also only getting hints of threats in behind when the isolated duels out wide
are key exploitation areas. Just not seeing us pair up and rotate vertically down those corridors to create problems for Brighton's setup. Havertz's movement has been really good but he's got no one going the other way for him whatsoever either.
