7th November, 2026
Well we're likely to complete the first week of November on a note of Manston not reaching 13°C for the first time since 2016. We begin the weekend shrouded by mist which should lift by noon leaving highs of just 10°C today with light cloud.
Back in 2015 we saw highs of 18.2°C the last time we reached +18C in November (Our latest date for a temperature above 18°C too). The day itself was rather stormy and dull so not one of the best. Other warm days were set in 1966 & 1955 with highs at 16.1°C. It was very cold and dull in 1888 with Margate only reaching 3.2°C and Manston saw light snow showers in 1980 with highs a just 4.4°C. Other chilly days at just 6°C include 1923, 1921 & 1864.
Very wet in 1957 with 39.7mm's of rainfall at Ramsgate. Heavy rain also set in 1935 & 1875 with totals above +20mm's recorded.
It was a day of pure sunshine in 2003 & 1941 with over 8 hours of blue skies recorded. Our last 'dull' day was back in 2011.

Certainly a chilly very misty 24 hours yesterday with Manston only reaching 8.4°C for 7th Nov. The coldest for the date since 1987 but also the coldest for the first half of November since 2019.
Yesterday saw a chilly 24 hour maximum of just 9.6°C at Manston. This is the first day a single digit maximum has been seen since 26th March. This is also the earliest occasion of single digit maximum seen since the same day in 2021.
“Remember, Remember the 5th of November” ….well probably not this year. Chilly Anticyclonic gloom all the way 👌
5th November, 2026
We have seen a fairly chilly start to November, the coolest since 2021 and today the theme continues. Highs around 9-10°C with a cutting easterly breeze under mostly cloudy skies.
Thanet has certainly seen some extremes in temperatures historically on this day especially so with maximum's. Weather stations across Thanet back in 1938 had reached unbelievable values of 20-21°C underneath clear blue skies - Ramsgate East Cliff reached 21.1°C our monthly record. Notably some mild days also in 2025, 2015, 2010, 1992, 1978 & 1884 with highs at or above +16°C.
On the other side very cold in 1980 and 1880 with values less than 6°C. Manston in 1980 could only manage 4.9°C underneath dull skies and some light cold drizzle.
Bonfire Nights were pretty warm last year with values sticking around 13-14°C as they were in 2015, 2010, 1994 and 1938 also. We saw the opposite in 1995 with air frosts developing with temperatures dipping down to -1°C. Very volatile and wet in 2000, 1942 and 1885 with 20-26mm's of heavy rainfall.

A bleak exceptionally chilly today across Thanet 107 years ago. Ramsgate could only reach 2.8°C with Margate not much higher at 3.3°C under drizzly ENE winds. Sleet was also observed over Margate. This is the earliest occasions of maximum temperatures remaining at 2-3°C.

A bright and fresh start to November although cloud rolling in from the North Sea late on scuppered chances of any sunshine records. Provisionally we've not seen maximum's as low as 11°C on the opening day of November since 2012 (9.6°C). With a high of a 11.8°C this is the coolest day since 21st April.
Ahead we're looking a bit of a damp night with some rain lingering into dawn...
Of course there is a slight chance the maximum today may rise a little a further overnight so we'll have to see by 0900 tomorrow what the actual 24hr maximum will be.
As a matter of fact it's been a splendid start to November with around +6 hours of sunshine. Perhaps the sunniest start to a November month since 2006.
1st November, 2026
We have seen the coolest start to November since 2015 with a low of 6.3°C at Manston this morning. November today starts on a relatively average note with high temperatures around 12°C with breezes from the northeast. Remaining mostly cloudy with some haze but should be dry.
Air frosts on the opening day of November are rare with only 1893 (-0.6°C) & 1881 (-0.3°C) recording one.
Warmest temperatures at this time of year are typically around 17°C. The warmest high was set in 2014 with 18.1°C. Very mild too in 2020, 2005, 1999, 1984, 1925, 1900 & 1867 with maximum's locally at or above +17°C. The coldest day was set in 1881 with high of only 4.6°C, the earliest occasion for such a low max temperature in our records. The weather report from 1st November, 1881 at St Augustine's states ''Very cold but dry, gloomy, freezing at morning, afternoon bleak fall of sleet''. Other chilly days include 1993, 1946, 1934 & 1919 with maximum's at just 6°C.
An exceptionally wet day in 2008 with 32.6mm's of rainfall at Manston - heavy rain all day and close to a monthly record. Very wet also in 2023, 1953, 1928, 1896 & 1865 with rainfall amounts above 17mm's. Very stormy in 2009 & 1953.
Sunniest start to a November month occurred in 1998 with 9.0 hours at Margate North Down. The 1990's were typically quite sunny on this day with 1996, 1994 & 1990 also seeing 7-8 hours of pure sunshine. Other years with sunny beginning's to November include 1957, 1955, 1949, 1901 & 1899 (+8 hours).
It was a very good October month for Sunshine (albeit quite wet) with this year being the 6th sunniest on record at Manston and the sunniest since at least 2022.
We also broke a daily monthly sunshine record of 10.9 hours on the 5th!
Unfortunately the other sunniest October's locally coincided with zero sunshine data at Manston. October's 1971, 1965 & 1959 were far sunnier than 2011 with other local sites in Thanet (Margate & Ramsgate). There was a stunning 181 hours at Margate in 1959! So a little context needed here.
However the sunniest October month on record for Thanet with data back to 1892 was set in 1920 where Broadstairs had reached a magnificent 199 hours!

Halloween 2026 ☀️🎃
There is a good opportunity for Thanet to record it's sunniest Halloween on record. The current record for Sunshine is over 9 hours from 1997 at Margate. The Manston record is 8.8 hours from the same year.

A little bit of cloud this morning drifting in from the sea which may prevent the record today but we'll see.
