I’m pleased once again to share that our research work, “An AI-Driven Computational Argumentation Framework for Resolving Agrarian Land Conflicts: Benue Open Grazing Prohibition Law,” has been accepted and published in the Open Journal of Physical Science. doi.org/10.52417/ojps.v7i2.1… This one is particularly dear to me. I am from Benue State, so issues around land, agriculture, farmers, herders, livelihoods and the conflicts surrounding them are not just academic topics to me. They are realities that affect people and communities I know. In this study, we explored how computational argumentation can help represent, evaluate and reason through conflicting claims in agrarian land disputes, using the Benue Open Grazing Prohibition and Ranches Establishment Law as a case study. Rather than asking whether AI can simply predict an outcome, we asked a different question: Can AI systems be designed to reason well enough to be trusted in real-world human systems? Complex societal problems involve competing claims, rules, evidence, exceptions and perspectives. AI therefore needs to do more than produce answers. It should be able to reason through disagreement and make that reasoning more transparent. This work is also part of my broader research interest in defeasible reasoning, computational argumentation, AI governance, decision-support systems and responsible AI for the Global South.
