It happens rarely to me but I know what you’re talking about and you’re right, you really get no advanced warning so always need to be paying attention (which technically you’re supposed to be doing on an L2 system).
Lucid really needs to get moving on these updates. Everything “coming soon” while you see Rivian delivering on its timelines just isn’t a good look for them. For Gravity, it’s been 67 days since the last update and 87 days since the last feature update, which is too slow.

Yesterday I went on a 700 mile road trip in my Lucid Gravity. I attempted to use LSD (Lucid Self Driving), but it honestly isn’t safe to use.
In approximately 100 miles it disengaged three different times with a quick “take over” message displaying and disappearing within a second or two, so you needed to be paying close attention or you would have missed the message.
It also followed lines that were NOT lane lines on multiple occasions, causing the car to depart its lane in a very unsafe manor. In one instance, it followed skid marks and swerved across three lanes. I finally gave up and drove manually for the rest of the trip.
Other than the LSD failure, my trip was excellent. The seats are so comfortable, I felt totally refreshed after the trip. Efficiency is incredible, in 700 miles/10 hours I only had to charge for a total of 20 minutes. The Gravity is a top notch vehicle - smooth, silent, powerful.. it just cannot drive itself and the current feature set, in my opinion, is not safe to use unless you are truly paying full attention with your hands ready to grab the steering wheel at less than one seconds notice.
Fun range comparison - Jeremy left an hour before I did in his Cybertruck and we arrived at our destination at the exact same time.

Its not that I like to mentioned this brand.
But when Lucid has officially the best efficiency by far, and yet cult still claims Tesla is the most efficient, I just have to point out fact, regardless of brand.
Did they not like the stunt and worried about the future?
Ok so Tesla is years ahead of the competition.
And that’s BEFORE the Roadster, Cybercab and unsupervised self-driving reach their full potential.
Tesla’s lead in software, efficiency, technology and charging infrastructure is already enormous.
What’s coming next could widen that gap considerably.
The competition is so far behind, they’re still trying to catch up with yesterday’s Tesla.
Even their future plans are competing with Tesla’s present.
And people still think Tesla is just a car company.

I'd recommend looking into a used Lucid Air Grand Touring. You can find plenty of these in warranty and sub $60k. ~350-400+ miles of highway range, very spacious and comfortable, some of the best massaging seats in the business, and decent safety and ADAS tech.

Lucid nailed the EV sedan and wagon needs with the Air and Gravity. As a mom, the Gravity covers room for rear facing car seats to storage for soccer practice without sacrificing performance or efficiency.
After driving both back-to-back, I understand why someone would fall for the Air. But for me, the Gravity’s combination of performance, space and everyday usefulness makes the choice surprisingly easy."
