That heartbreak be a mf. Boi was in the back cryin his heart out
😭😭😭😭A young man's first heartbreak. I've experienced it as a mother and as a young lady I remember being the cause of one. (It wasnt because I cheated tho). They are all recoverable of course but it helps if someone is around and can help navigate that influx of despair. Shout out to this Memphis man! Don't go calling his phone either. #Heartbreak.

Abraham Shakespeare won a $30 million lottery jackpot in 2006. Three years later, the money was gone, and so was he. He had worked washing dishes and on garbage trucks in Lakeland, Florida. After the win, he paid off mortgages for family, friends, and some complete strangers. “I really would like my old life back,” he said. Among the new friends was Dee Dee Moore, who offered to manage his money. In a home video, she asks whether he’s tired of people asking him for money. “They don’t take no for an answer,” he replies. He was last seen in April 2009 but wasn’t reported missing until November. In January 2010, police found his body under a concrete slab in Moore’s backyard. Prosecutors say she tried to convince his mother he was still alive, arranging a phone call with someone posing as him. Her ex-husband testified he dug a hole with a backhoe at her request. Then came the forged letter to his mother, supposedly written by Shakespeare. He was illiterate. Informant Greg Smith secretly recorded Moore. He testified she told him to burn the body and gave him a list of supplies, including kerosene. On tape, she also discussed a plan for another man to take the blame for about $50,000. Moore maintains she is innocent. She faced a mandatory life sentence. He escaped poverty for three years, surrounded by people who all wanted a piece of him. The one who offered to protect his money was the one burying him in her yard. Was it the lottery that killed him, or the trust he placed in the wrong person?

Bobby Brown was 14 when New Edition hit No. 1 with "Candy Girl." After their first tour, each of the five boys got a check for $1.87. The tour bus dropped them back off in the projects. In the video below, Ricky Bell says what they were told the money went to. They were teenagers from Boston. Maurice Starr found them at his talent show in 1982 and produced "Candy Girl." On weekends they played two or three New York clubs a night. The money went to expenses, they were told. Food, uniforms, flights. "And so we just believed whatever they told us," Ricky said. At school, everyone thought they were rich. His coat, hats and boots were stolen from his locker in the middle of winter. In late 1983 they fired Starr, accusing him of embezzlement. They sued him and won. Starr has always denied taking their money. His next group was New Kids on the Block. Was $1.87 what was left after expenses, or what was left after Maurice Starr?

100 years ago today, Chuck Berry was born. Guitarist and songwriter who shaped rock and roll out of country, blues and R&B. Story songs, a double-stop guitar style, and a body of work that became the template.
