At the summit, we will focus on deepening regional integration, strengthening peace and security, accelerating the implementation of the African Continental Free Trade Area, advancing industrialisation, and unlocking the full economic potential of Africa’s natural resources through value addition.

Today, I had the honour of attending Mashujaa Day in Eldoret, Kenya, where I delivered remarks paying tribute to the heroes who fought for freedom and those who made the ultimate sacrifices to safeguard their nation. I honour their courage and legacy!
Kenya’s history of courage and sacrifice resonates deeply with Ethiopia’s own story of Adwa, where Ethiopians from every corner of the country united to defend their homeland. These shared histories remind us that freedom was never given; it was won through courage, unity, and sacrifice.
As our histories are intertwined, so too must our futures be. Through the spirit of Medemer, Ethiopia and Kenya must continue building on our existing cooperation in clean energy, connectivity, telecommunications, and trade to create greater opportunities and shared prosperity for our people.
To all those honoured today, I salute you. Happy Mashujaa Day!

Assented to the Tax Laws (Amendment) Bill, 2026, and the Kenya Revenue Authority (Amendment) Bill, 2026, at Eldoret State Lodge, Uasin Gishu County.
This amendment Act extends the reduction of VAT on petroleum products from 16 per cent to 8 per cent for another 90 days to cushion Kenyans against high fuel prices.
It also introduces reforms to excise duty on tiles, sanitary ware and glass products to lower construction costs, boost the housing industry and create jobs.
On its part, The Kenya Revenue Authority (Amendment) Act strengthens KRA's governance and financing, improving efficiency and revenue collection without increasing taxes.

Scrapping even one of the nine fuel levies would deal a major blow to infrastructure funding, especially after the fuel stabilisation fund was depleted by June. Winter will push diesel demand higher, with November and December likely to be tougher. The focus now is to stabilise prices and weather the storm, with relief and a sharp price drop around February 14, 2027.

Inspected the construction of Kongasis Teachers Training College in Churo, Tiaty Constituency, Baringo County, and committed KSh250 million towards its completion. We will also build student hostels at the institution.
We urge parents, especially those in pastoralist regions, to take advantage of the KSh784 billion education budget this financial year to ensure their children go to school and pursue the opportunities this offers.
