Sarfraz Taj, Terrestrial Energy's VP of Business Development, recently spoke in the Innovate Arena at Yotta 2026, which brought together more than 6,000 leaders across the data center, energy, and investment space. His discussion focused on how next-generation nuclear can close the power gap facing AI and data centers.
Sarfraz highlighted current power grid dynamics, noting only 2% of queued capacity actually reached operation last year, and the median wait from interconnection request to commercial operation has nearly tripled since 2008, to 61 months. He explained that the IMSR Plant's best in class capital efficiency, natural gas bridge, and use of standard assay low enriched uranium (LEU) solve the critical challenges facing nuclear deployment for data center power.
We continue to advance toward our IMSR Plant’s deployment with the submission of our Thermal and Electric Facility (TEF) Topical Report to the US NRC, the third of our planned 2026 submissions.
If approved, the steam, heat transfer and electrical systems could be built as a conventional industrial project and run on natural gas while the nuclear plant follows the full licensing process. That means earlier power delivery for customers, and a more bankable construction phase.

Terrestrial Energy achieves another milestone! We’ve submitted our Thermal and Electric Facility (TEF) Topical Report to the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission, our third Topical Report submission this year, delivering on our guidance of submitting at least three reports in 2026.
If approved, the TEF, which houses the generators, turbines, and steam supply systems of the IMSR Plant, could be customized for each site and built and operated ahead of the plant’s nuclear construction permit and operating license. After approval, the report becomes part of the IMSR licensing basis, referenceable in future applications without re-evaluation.

Our VP of Business Development, Sarfraz Taj, recently joined the "From Policy to Power: Deploying Nuclear in Texas" panel at the @NuclearTexas 2026 Summit. The discussion centered on what it will take to bring nuclear power online in Texas. Two takeaways stood out:
1. ERCOT's demand signal is hard to ignore. Demand hit a record 91.1 GW on July 22, and the large-load interconnection queue holds more than four times that amount.
2. Texas' industrial ecosystem is built for new nuclear plants, with state incentives, a skilled workforce in adjacent industries, and a deep bench of universities, suppliers, and technology companies.
As Sarfraz put it, "The IMSR has a triple advantage: high temperature, low pressure, and inherent safety. Each of those characteristics simplifies the plant and improves its capital efficiency. And its tertiary molten salt loop enables integration of natural gas directly, so customers can get early power and early revenue that bolster the project's economics and reduces risk. Texas is establishing a world class ecosystem for new nuclear, and we're proud to be working with Texas A&M on IMSR Plant deployment."

“Extraordinary confluence of factors is driving a secular expansion in nuclear energy supply," Simon Irish said at Santander's 2026 AI Power Race Conference's "Power and AI Infrastructure Trends" panel, making the case for nuclear's role in powering AI.
The panel brought together power development, infrastructure investing and advanced nuclear around one question: How does the U.S. build enough power, fast enough, for the AI era?
Simon's case for why nuclear fits:
- The nuclear supply response is taking shape in three ways: restarting existing plants, new conventional nuclear plant, and small modular reactor plants.
- Clean firm SMRs can be co-located next to demand. That matters as transmission and pipeline congestion builds.
- Capital and regulation are both moving impressively to support this expansion of nuclear supply at a scale the sector hasn't seen in half a century.
- At Terrestrial Energy, we designed the IMSR Plant for high capital efficiency and swift fleet scale deployment focused on avoiding supply chain constraints using standard LEU fuel, leveraging existing supply chain infrastructure.
Thank you to Santander for the invitation and a great conversation.

Another milestone achieved for Terrestrial Energy's IMSR Plant regulatory program!
We've submitted our Graphite Topical Report to the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission, the second of at least three Topical Reports we expect to submit to the NRC this year. The submission supports the regulatory basis for qualifying graphite, a central component of the IMSR Core-unit, for use in commercial plant operations.
Graphite qualification is the process that permits the NRC to recognize the licensing basis for IMSR graphite. Once approved, this becomes a permanent part of that basis, referenceable in future IMSR Plants regulatory applications avoiding continuous re-evaluation. This regulatory progress demonstrates further execution of the Company’s regulatory strategy, moving the IMSR Plant systematically closer to licensed commercial operation.

As utilities turn to advanced nuclear to help meet unprecedented energy demand, not all reactor designs carry the same risk. Our VP of Business Development, Sarfraz Taj, breaks down with @POWERmagazine the three questions every utility should ask before investing:
1. How Capital-Efficient Is a Technology Over Its Full Lifetime?
2. How Resilient Is the Fuel Strategy?
3. How Mature Is the Regulatory Engagement and Progress Toward Licensing a Design?
The label "advanced reactor" covers a lot of ground. The technologies underneath it don't share the same commercial or execution risk.

This week Jim Howe, Terrestrial Energy VP of Government Relations, joined a panel of industry experts at the @US_NIC’s session on nuclear fuel with the Congressional Advanced Nuclear Caucus.
Jim's message was clear: fuel choice is a commercial decision, not just a technical one. Terrestrial Energy's IMSR plants run on standard-assay low-enriched uranium (LEU) — available today from multiple western suppliers — avoiding the high costs and supply challenges that come with the higher enrichment levels most advanced reactors require.
He also highlighted Terrestrial Energy's mature supply chain for fuel and key components, anchored by commercial relationships already in place — one more reason IMSR is positioned to deploy at fleet scale.
Terrestrial Energy CEO, Simon Irish, recently participated in RBC Capital Markets’ 2026 Global Energy, Power, and Infrastructure Conference, where he sat on a panel with industry leaders Robert Nicholson, Aida Cipolla and Graeme Johnston, to discuss the nuclear renaissance and the forces behind the resurgence.
The RBC Capital Markets Insights article, “Perspectives on nuclear: what industry leaders see ahead,” recaps the panel’s discussion on key factors driving the surge in nuclear energy activity, including private-sector innovation, surging power demand, a more supportive policy environment and new models of capital formation. The piece highlights Simon's perspective on the vital role the private-sector is playing in leading nuclear innovation and technologies, and what it will take to move from first-of-a-kind projects to full fleet deployment.

Thank you @US_NIC for including us in yesterday’s important discussion on the future of nuclear energy in the U.S.
Thank you to @RepChuck and @RepBillFoster for kicking off today’s discussion on Capitol Hill—and to @GovNuclear, @centrus_energy, @urencousa, @TerrestrialMSR and @xenergynuclear for sharing their expertise on nuclear fuel, supply chains and workforce needs.
On the heels of being awarded “Highly Commended” Technology of Change – Energy Efficiency Award at the Reuters 2026 Energy Industry Awards, our CEO, Simon Irish, recently joined industry leaders at Reuters Events Global Energy Forum 2026 for the “The New Investment Equation: Resilience Over Risk Panel.”
For the first time, private capital is funding nuclear technology opportunities pursued by private sector innovators, and screening for the most viable, scalable and capital efficient technologies – those that lower capital requirements, plant construction times, and cost of nuclear energy supply, while improving plant output efficiency and reducing supply chain and regulatory requirements.
Capital is funding the transition from technology development to project-level deployment. Simon offered insights on how projects secure capital, exploring global investment flows, de-risking strategies, and the partnerships that unlock financing specifically highlighting Terrestrial Energy’s IMSR Plant as a practical example. By design, the IMSR captures the special “triple-advantage” of molten salt reactor technology – high-temperature and low-pressure operating with inherent safety, making it stand out in the nuclear tech sector for its high capital efficiency while avoiding fuel supply chain challenges from its use of readily-available low enriched uranium (at <5% U-235).
Thank you to Reuters Events and the fellow panelists for an insightful conversation.
