Laser-wakefield accelerators need techniques to be chained together so their 100 GV/m gradients can reach TeV energy levels.

The next paper in the CBNNT #mechanosynthesis series is now available at arxiv.org/abs/2606.13876 - a demonstration of reliable Main Group subtractive mechanosynthesis - removal of surface Si atoms and the necessary breaking of their three underlying bonds (a significant step above H surface abstraction) from depassivated Si(100).

Carbon has a metastable BC8 form that's tougher than diamond. Its compressive strength may be 30% higher!
However, it would have to be grown as nanocrystals condensing out of liquid carbon at insane 5000K and >1500 GPa conditions.
