Zero-click search is creating a measurement problem for brands. More of the customer journey now happens before someone ever reaches a brand’s website.
People can discover a company, form an opinion, compare options, and make a decision without even visiting a single brand website. The traffic losses are being felt, but what does it indicate?
It’s a difficult question that has brand leaders scratching their heads: Are we actually gaining customers, losing them, or simply losing visibility into the journey?
Our POV is that regardless of the metric, the answer starts with the part of your digital footprint you can control.
Brands need to:
-Build out a strong constellation of owned and managed assets
-Connect those assets so they reinforce a consistent brand narrative
-Measure how the broader ecosystem performs over time, not just what happens on the corporate website
Traffic still matters. But in a zero-click environment, it is now a broken compass for brand performance.
Start with what you can control and influence. That’s step one.

Siri AI is a major step forward for Apple, a brand that seemingly took a backseat to AI leaders like OpenAI and Anthropic.
Now, classic Siri becomes an AI voice assistant with advanced features. According to Apple, Siri is evolving into a “profoundly more capable and conversational assistant with personal context understanding, broad world knowledge, and onscreen awareness…”
Big news, but what does it mean for brand reputation and AI visibility? A few things.
Conversational search creates more ways for reputation to be tested — People won’t just search for a brand name, they'll ask Siri AI follow-up questions about leadership, controversies, reviews, trust, products, competitors, or anything else they want to understand about a company.
The answer itself carries more reputational weight — Siri AI will provide a single synthesized response that Apple users will trust. What that response emphasizes, omits, or gets wrong can directly shape perception.
The entire digital footprint matters (even more) — News coverage, executive profiles, reviews, third-party sites, owned content, and other information across the web can all contribute to what Siri AI says about a brand. Weaknesses in that footprint become reputation risks.
Brands need to build for questions they can’t predict — You can optimize for a known set of keywords. You cannot anticipate every conversational question someone might ask about your brand. The stronger defense is a deep, accurate, consistent body of information across the web.
Siri AI is another reminder that reputation is increasingly shaped before a user ever reaches a brand’s website. For brands, the job is becoming bigger: make sure the broader digital record gives people an accurate picture of who you are.

Your Google Knowledge Panel is more than a search feature. It’s one of your most visible reputation assets.
For brands and high-profile individuals, it can shape first impressions, reinforce authoritative facts, offset negative results, and influence how AI understands your identity.

The job of managing reputation has fundamentally changed.
In his latest column for Entrepreneur, Terakeet CEO & Co-Founder Mac Cummings explores why leaders need to think beyond traditional reputation management and take greater ownership of their digital presence.
“We have to ruthlessly expand and take absolute ownership of our digital footprints today, trading next quarter’s obsession for a long-term outlook. Why? To hardwire brand resilience into our DNA long before the next inevitable crisis hits.”

A crisis is not over just because the headlines changed.
AI search ends the time aspect of reputational incidents. It draws from a brand’s entire digital record, which means damaging narratives can resurface long after the news cycle moves on. It can happen at any moment.
Our latest article explains why modern crisis management requires two phases: managing the immediate response and building the long-term narrative across search and AI.

The most expensive reputation management strategy is waiting too long.
Many organizations don’t think about reputation management until they are facing negative headlines, declining trust, or unwanted search results. By then the damage is done.
A reactive reputation approach wastes time, resources, and cannot mitigate long-term damage. Instead, focus on starting now to proactively build a strong digital presence so your brand’s prepared.
The question isn’t whether a damaged reputation will impact your business — it’s whether you’ll proactively manage brand risk or scramble to react once it’s too late.

Reputation isn’t simply what people say about your brand, it is what they discover when searching or chatting with AI.
In today’s digital landscape, trust is built through every article, review, and AI generated search results.
