Read my latest, about the lengths to which adoptees have to go to, including dna testing and buying death certificates of birth family members, to find out their family health history. #adopteehealth #adopteevoices

Delighted to say we’ve reached over a 1/4 of our fundraising target already 🙌🏻
Thank you so much to everyone who has donated so far 🙏🏻 There’s still plenty of time to donate and honestly every single pound is appreciated more than you know.
For anyone wondering what we’re taking on, we’ll be walking the Stairway to Heaven in Fermanagh…..a boardwalk trail at Cuilcagh Mountain. Im told it’s a challenging enough climb with unbelievable views at the top…..and it feels like such a fitting way to remember Stephen and all our loved ones gone too soon.
Every step will be walked in Stephen’s memory and to raise awareness for Prescription Harm Awareness Day and funds for Antidepressant Risks.
Now… anyone that knows me knows I can hardly walk the length of myself never mind up a mountain 😅 but this is bigger than sore legs and being out of breath after 5 minutes….we’re doing this for Stephen, for awareness, and for every family affected by prescribed harm.
If you can donate, share, or support in any way at all, it would mean the world 💜

A deeply moving and intensely personal read in the @guardian from @David_Batty about his experience of adoption, reconnection and extended family identities.
The ongoing, lifelong impacts of severance are both incredibly profound and deeply felt.

It’s Volunteer Week and Elaine McBride who volunteers for @NIHospice talks about the personal value of helping others.
To celebrate Volunteer’s Week, on this episode of Going the Extra Mile we speak to Elaine McBride, a dedicated Northern Ireland Hospice volunteer of nine years. Inspired by the vital respite care her son Sam receives, Elaine works to show that hospices are places of joy, light, and memory-making, rather than just end-of-life care. @NIHospice @CarolJordanTV

As a clinical psychologist, one of the first questions Chris Tennyson asks his patients is about their family medical history.
It’s a question which carries a personal irony as for decades it’s a question Chris couldn’t answer himself.
He's been chatting to @CarolJordanTV on the latest episode of Going the Extra Mile.

Adopted as a young infant, Chris Tennyson's adoptive family never received any family health history, a situation which as he found out, could have been life threatening.
His goal is that he can change the rules so this never happens to any other adopted person again.
