Notice a trend in recent times?
Thanks to the cultural significance of sakura in Japan, we have data on the day of the year when a very particular species of cherry blossom (P. jamasakura) reached "full-flowering" (満開) in a specific area on the outskirts of Kyoto (Arashiyama), all the way back to 800 AD.
Prof. Aono and his collaborators, did an amazing work of collecting and analysing this data from thousands of sources:

Pakistan floods:
6.3% of ALL the land in the most populous country on Earth, was flooded at some point during 2022.
As these maps show, #Pakistan's ability to grow crops is limited to a few regions: 15% of this cropland was affected by #floods over the past year.

Due to #ClimateChange, old maps of natural hazards can't be trusted. A new Guardian article pointed out that FEMA's flood risk maps are outdated, so we used our DataViz models to create new #ClimateRisk maps based on recent weather events.
