A great way for DMs to do this is to do it in character! If you're stumbling to think what an NPC would say you can fill time w/ "they take a quick pause, and look off into the distance while collecting their thoughts". This can add to the character, and buy you time to think!

I'm working really hard to remove "um" and other fillers when I talk (when GMing and streaming). It's a presentation thing. Silence or a slight pause sounds way better than constant um fillers.

It's almost as if you're narrating what *you're* actually doing but you don't want to stop the flow of the dialogue!

#DMtip of the day: Using the Environment Typically, large monsters like ogres and giants have a ranged attack built into their kit. Reflavour this to the creature picking up a cart, or something else heavy around them! This can make the encounter more immersive! #DnD #dnd5e

KARLACH THE DEMONSBANE #BaldursGate3 #BG3

A half body portrait of Karlach from Baldur's Gate 3 standing half-obscured in the night's shadow. She has her arms crossed and is smirking darkly at the camera. Her eyes, chest, tail and left horn glow with traces of hell fire. Behind her is a blue monochrome wasteland.
