PAUL TUDOR JONES TODAY:
- "2027 is going to be a very challenging year for the market."
- "Right now feels exactly like 1999, for me it’s just so clear that we’re on this path that could be great short term but may not be so great long term. I forget that so many people haven’t lived this."
- “I’ll be short the whole year. There just — there’s little value. You had all this issuance, all these IPOs in ’98 and ’99, and really 2000, 2001, 2002. Those were the easiest years to be short because you kept having these unlocks that just kept adding supply to the market.”
PTJ was one of the few investors that began actively shorting the Nasdaq Composite Index in 1999. The question becomes...is he right that we are in 1999, or is it more like 1997? Even Jensen has said that this will all eventually become a bubble but he thinks we have many years before we get there.
I think his comments today are creating more pressure on the semis as many people are trying to navigate 2027 positioning and if the core names in the AI trade are the ones to continue betting on going into next year.
by the time ur kids enter adulthood there will be nearly no moats left:
- intelligence commoditized by ai
- looking jacked and sexy commoditized by glp-1s and myostatin inhibitors
- agency and resilience commoditized by dopamine and prefrontal modulators
- being fun to be around commoditized by meta raybans which will give u jokes to tell in real time
the only moat left is having rich and powerful parents.
therefore ur job is to get rich and powerful.

crypto's time to shine was 2010s/early 2020s which was the prime period for excess cash in the system to chase/speculate on non-productive assets and wasn't crowded out by more economically interesting alternatives (eg AI infra build out)
during the 2010s/early 2020s crypto golden era:
1) low cost of capital (0-25 bps basically since the GFC in 2008) => money had to push out the risk curve to find returns
2) excess cash in the system had few places to go => low investment opportunity cost; the main cutting edge tech was SaaS which was light on capex needs and therefore didn't need to borrow much from capital markets as it could fund itself just fine on its own FCF flywheel
3) low inflation => no siphoning effect from increasing cost of living (which affects household excess income for speculation) and less need for companies to raise capital for productive purposes when cost of inputs isn't rising
we now live in a completely different world
1) increasing cost of capital => much higher bar on sending capital to chase pure speculation
2) excess capital has many places to go => the AI buildout is a massive capital guzzler that can offer high ROICs on literally trillions of $
3) high inflation => negative effects on household wealth effects (less money for non-essentials like speculation) and corporate input costs (more productive capital market activity for investors to chase)

The way to think about “open” in software is being a low-cost producer (vs a high margin one). When a company (or 2) achieves record valuations in record time, that rightfully attracts competition (as it should). We need to let the free market work.

차트는 Capital stock at Current Purchasing Power Parities를 인구수로 나눈 값입니다.
