Today, Ms. Orli Weitzman, Consul General of Israel to South India, visited our Adamya Chetana kitchen and appreciated the scale and impact of our work. She described serving 1,75,000 meals daily as a remarkable achievement. Her husband and daughter accompanied her and showed keen interest in our operations.

How does one person become a hero to so many? AnanthKumar was a hero to his family, teachers, classmates, fellow inmates during the Emergency, ABVP karyakartas, colleagues, senior leaders (@narendramodi), IAS officers, scientists, social workers and countless citizens. He earned affection across political lines both his @BJP4Karnataka @BJP4India and opposition. That was AnanthKumar loved by all. At the time of our marriage, he, my hero, told me: “It is not that I love you less, but that I love this country more.” I cherished those words then. I cherish them even more today. On his 67th birthday, I remember a leader who belonged to the nation and a person whom so many called their own.

Returning today from Israel after a very meaningful visit. The delegation, sponsored by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Government of Israel, to discuss and strengthen bilateral understanding in the areas of social inclusion and innovation, was a useful step in understanding each other’s strengths and weaknesses and drawing motivation from one another. My key takeaway: We need to become more patriotic and show in our actions, respect and live our traditions, and actively involve ourselves in voluntary and community service. There is much to learn from each other—and much to take back home and put into action.

Deeply saddened by the tragic disaster in Nepal, where the sudden rush of water swept through communities, causing loss of precious lives and widespread devastation. My heartfelt condolences to the families who have lost their loved ones, and prayers for the safety and speedy recovery of all those affected. At this difficult time, our thoughts and prayers are with the people of Nepal. May they find strength and courage to overcome this tragedy.

United Hatzalah is an NGO that claims it can reach a caller’s location within 90 seconds in a medical emergency. It sounds hard to believe, but after hearing their CEO explain how the system works, we realised that it is indeed possible. The most remarkable part is that the cost to the patient is zero, and the cost to the government is also zero. It is a volunteer-driven emergency medical service, supported largely through CSR and donations. A fascinating model of how technology, a strong volunteer network and social commitment can come together to save lives.
