Well, here it is. The moment Dragon Ball Super: Beerus was created for.
SSJ1 Goku vs Beerus, DBS Episode 5 vs DBS Beerus.
Basically the entire thing has been redone. The new version may not reach the animation heights of the DBS Tournament of Power, but its still a HUGE upgrade
While the SSJ1/2 fight was more or less completely redone, the SSJ3 fight actually retains a LOT of its animation from the original episode. Though most of it has been touched up w/ new correction art.
Tate's animation in the original ep here is great, so glad its still around!
Imo the biggest upgrade to DBS Episode 5 might be the ssj3 transformation. The storyboard here is MUCH improved. The lightning hitting snake way is a top 3 coolest shows of power in modern db, if you ask me.
So, potential plot twist here. DBS Beerus MAY or may not have a rights issue under the hood.
Currently, the only DBS-original tracks in its first episode are Beerus specific (the one Beerus DBS theme). No other DBS tracks in sight.
Will this mean no SSB theme and more?
We only have one episode, so this COULD just be a total coincidence. But it would certainly explain the unusually heavy reliance on boo kai's tracks.
I really HOPE it isn't true though. Early DBS has a few infamous tracks I'd rather never hear again, but it also has bangers

Como imagino que será a luta refeita de Goku vs. Freeza, em Dragon Ball Super Beerus.
I don't even know if any of these are hot takes. But they are ground truth.
(Note: elements within tiers are in no particular order)
So it turns out, the band that made DBS Beerus's new opening theme, also released a 2nd single along with it.
... And I highkey think it makes for an AMAZING opening theme. I would go so far as to say this matches the vibe and spirit of DB better!
Here's what that'd look like.
Watching this gives me serious fomo. Really wish this was the song they went with for the OP. It's very Dragon Ball, while also being a bit more serious
Obviously the OP was cut to a different song, so I don't think my edit is perfect. But I feel like I got it pretty close!
I finally worked out why DBS Beerus looked off to me.
Thanks to their new filter, Toei have raised the black levels (& midtones) of the WHOLE show. Makes the entire thing look desaturated & washed out.
Thankfully, we can actually fix 90% of it with 1 button! Behold:
Watched DBS Beerus episode 1, and I'm deeply perplexed by the music direction here.
In episode 1 there are 7 music tracks in total.
Two new tracks
ONE from DBS
and FOUR from... Boo Kai.
...why Boo Kai??
Toei really cracked the code. They figured out all you have to do is put an ugly stack of busy effects on a png to make dragon ball fans do a backflip.
Some general thoughts on Beerus E01:
Full disclosure, I went in pessimistic about the OP, and the (understandable) retention of the Yamamuro designs. Everything else I was neutral on.
I really don't like to be negative about DB, but that was... really perplexingly bad?
Also, I'm legitimately sorry to say, but I think this ED has the worst ED visuals in series history. If I see ANYONE defending this I'm going to implode haha
