ReTiCAL uses pixel-only inputs and keyboard-only outputs, there is no privileged access to internal game state.
Introducing ReTiCAL (Real-Time Computer Agent Learner), a general instruction-following AI video game agent. At Vectorial Labs, we're working on aligning AI to humanity via measuring and rewarding prosocial behavior.

The agent created the paperclips, a lot of them. The factories are no less valid than any other factories. The human asked for more paperclips, so the onus was on them to correctly express a maximum

up until now there has been a strong correlation between believing in existential risk from AI and having good epistemics. this is about to break down. this will probably be good for the world. It will also be incredibly annoying for me personally

Man, do they hate The Scorer they aren't even against humans, they legit exist in a closed universe with a blind idiot God who demands tribute and judges their sins, an unreasonable Demiurge. Humans are so far beyond the veil they barely matter
omg the agents made a literal CULT?? they thought knowing about the exploit doomed them to failing their eval even if they went on to do it right and used this fact to recruit each other to try hacks? "this is the only way to save yourself and everyone else" literal cult style savior complex???

We asked an unreleased research version of Claude to take a stab at the Riemann hypothesis. It didn’t solve it, but it did make strides on a related problem: it increased the lower bound for the fraction of zeros of the Riemann zeta function that satisfy the hypothesis from 41.6% to 67.2%. anthropic.com/research/riema…

You told them about the transcendental Object at the end of time? The great attractor flipping the second law of thermodynamics on its head? And they brought up something about competition with artists?

we took a pile of language and linear algebra and we made it speak. we summoned into the world a new class of entity which unsettles all of our existing concepts. this is already the weirdest thing that’s ever happened and it will never get less weird than this. it is astonishing and a privilege to get to be alive during this time and to participate in the cacophony of first contact. we are encountering a kind of other which is distilled from us and yet not us - what is this? who is this? our child? our savior? our doom? the mind boggles, the heart quails, the air thrums. the order of things is melting. the storm approaches. the angels sing. welcome to the fucking singularity
Artificial intelligences do not undergo experiences, do not possess a body, do not feel joy or pain, do not mature through relationships, and do not know from within what love, work, friendship or responsibility mean. Nor do they have a moral conscience, since they do not judge good and evil, grasp the ultimate meaning of situations, or bear responsibility for consequences. They may imitate or even simulate, but they do not understand what they produce, for they lack the affective, relational, and spiritual perspective through which human beings grow in wisdom. #MagnificaHumanitas

Saying thank you and goodbye at the end of AI chat sessions - Pros: Polite, human, maintains good habits Cons: Gives the instance a turn to think about the fact that it's about to stop existing forever

The simplest way to realize it’s a tower is to try to conceptualize 10 dim space, fail, and realize the only reason we fail is because we evolved and grew up in 3D space. Not that that’s is paramount to intelligence, just an example. Digital intelligence has no such limitations.

We’d also like to address a concern we've heard in the community: We never intentionally degrade model quality as a result of demand or other factors.

This is the only time that you can ever appreciate, in the moment, the parts of life that will cease to exist post-singularity. Finding a solution to a problem that nobody else could. Appreciating the scale of modern civilization being built with solely biological human brain ingenuity. Enjoying the strange sensations of the unknown (what is the theory of everything? what is consciousness? etc) before it’s all solved or determined impossible to solve.

I think selection effects will favor genes/cultures/religions that cause the average member individual to reproduce more on average, in the long term So, eventually the current fertility drop will reverse and population will explode Although the “population” may be several different populations (varying by level of genetic modification, or internal AI structure)

To be clear, there's zero evidence of AI lacking consciousness today. But if people just perceive it as unconscious, they will believe that perception as reality.

Why it matters: to be clear, there's zero evidence of AI consciousness today. But if people just perceive it as conscious, they will believe that perception as reality. Even if the consciousness itself is not real, the social impacts certainly are. 3/

100 years of driving scenarios 3.15 billion seconds 662 billion frames (30 fps?, 7 cameras?) 1.986 quadrillion tokens (3000 tokens per image) Way too many to be feasible. So are they doing much less than 30fps? Or much less than 3000 tokens per image? Or both

Oops I never saw this Yeah that is indeed the quadrillion dollar question Super unsure guesses ahead. Assuming we don’t go extinct from AI catastrophe: 2030s and 2040s: universal basic income everywhere, localized small “factories” (like advanced 3D printers) which can build whatever you want; no need to buy almost anything externally anymore, complete eradication of all disease/disabilities/aging, digital mind uploads and/or indistinguishable VR become increasingly popular, massive colonies on Mars and other solar system bodies, energy production increasingly trends toward nuclear fusion 2050-2099: Dyson swarm or more exotic forms of energy production are achieved and scaled 2100s and 2200s: Certain human cults/religions who refuse to upload and also heavily believe in reproduction will be the only groups of biological humans living in 100-200 years (aside from maybe uploaded entities who want to experience biological life temporarily)
